Scratching
Milly has been really scratching the last few days I have checked her all over and cannot see anything but she is making under her neck sore any suggestions. She had Avocate on 3 weeks ago and she defo has not got fleas.

Re: Scratching
Have you changed any washing powder? Or even her food? Have you been anywhere different?
Is she scratching all over, or just under her neck? If it's just under her neck, I'd have a really close look for any signs of a scratch or bite (yes, there are still some blasted biting insects out there - god knows how they survive in this!!).
Other than that, I'd massage a small amount of Sudocrem or other good quality nappy rash ointment on the affected area to take away irritation & see if that does the trick. Otherwise, you could try Camrosa Ointment - you can get it on line (I'm sure they'd be happy to ship it out there!) & it helps with most skin problems, including mild demodex! Trouble is, it's rather messy.
If the sudocrem or Camrosa doesn't work you may need to see the vet for a skin scraep, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Re: Scratching
I have just booked her into vets tomorrow do you think it could be mange? as she is scratching in a few places. I not changed washing powder, she is still on same food and she not been anywhere different. the only thing we have done different is give her a bath in very mild puppy shampoo and conditioner last week.

Re: Scratching
Could be the conditioner? I use a spray on one so that it doesn't penetrate the skin so easily. But yes, it could be demodex. All dogs have the mite in small numbers, but sometimes for some reason they multiply & cause a problem.

Re: Scratching
Yes, easily treated, but can be a lengthy process - if that's what it is. I doubt the vet will start treatment till he's taken skin scrapes & got the results. I don't know how it's treated nowadys, but it used to be injections & a medicated shampoo.

Re: Scratching
could be mange, you will know this if you see small bare patches appearing initially on the head and ears. The under parts i.e the belly and groin areas often swell and redden and the dog will lacerate herself in her irritation. Proprietary mange cures readily available from your vets can be used to good effect and the dog should be bathed in one three times a week. no injections needed

Dempsey's claws are kept down by a fair bit of pavement walking. I've cut them a couple of times myself, but he doesn't like it & squirms.

One of the vets in the one I go to won't touch Dempsey, she's scared of him. So I did them myself when he was a pup, but don't need to now.

Re: Scratching
They sometimes just get a little scratch & although we can't see it, it irritates. Then they scratch & that irritates it even more! Hopefully a little soothing cream will give her enough relief to break the cycle.

Poor Vets... In Australia we need to go to uni for 6-8 years to be a vet!
Hard job they do it well.
How is the itch?.. is the Gel making Moo better?

Same in the UK, but the prices they charge are ridiculous. Still, we need em.

Re: Scratching
OMG really... We have a great vet.. He charges $3 to cut their nails! and nothing is to much trouble.. i went and had my kittens ears checked for mites and his 1 year shot and they charged me $50!... desexing was only $75 i think for an over night stay.. that is cheap i thinkx

Re: Scratching
a lot of products that you get from the chemists can be used on your dogs, at the end of the day all these well most of them have been tested on animals and dogs before they are they are put on the open market for human consumption and they all do the same trick, and a vet told me that. when you buy something from the vets e.g. a laxative or an ear drop for trapped wax and vitamins tablets for your dog you pay double the price for the same product with the same ingredients from the chemist. im not advocating in any way that you buy your dogs medicine from the chemist, i just telling ye the facts.
