Irrisponsible dog owner!
Just want to get this out of my system... Iv just rescued another staff - but thats another story - We went to the common for a walk on tues and just as we set off these 2 chocolate labs came charging over out of nowhere, striaght up to maisy for a sniff first as she was off lead and closest, my new staff scooby - who was on a stretchy lead - had a good look, then they came running over to him for a sniff, he was fine thank god, he tried to play, one of them growled and they ran off, i called maisy and we carried on but my point is... these labs had no collars on and no owner was in sight - we saw her coming down the track a few minutes into our walk - if a fight had broke out it would have totally been down to these 2 labs, but my staffs would have got the blame and i would have been left trying to split 4 dogs up!

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
Scooby is a far better name
As for the owners of the labs, I'm sure if you met them there would be some excuse of they dont stray far or I always know where they are!
Stupid people and stupid owners. They may never have an accident with another dog, but please, some things are just commen sense!

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
I had something similar a couple of days ago a husky and black retriever running loose together they had collars but no owner anywhere in sight and they were running into roads the husky ha come over to say hello to Ledger and seemed friendly but after they ran off a bloke shouted from the next bit of park to say the retriever had gone for him by the time my neighbour and I got there with a spare lead both were gone last seen running off towards busier roads :S
Then tonight one of the chaps I've seen before was walking his whippet off lead I've have seen her run from him a couple of times then tonight there was a load of bread left on the grass and he shouted at her to leave but he just kept walking and off down along the brook out of sight his dog then shot a different way out of the park and down near the back of my house, I managed with ledger in one hand to get hold of her collar and walked her back down to the park where he was still stood about another 100 yards away just shouting and whistling so as we were in sight I let her go and she ran back the way I'd brought her back to the bread and still he made no attempt to come back for her! I went back round an managed to shoo her back across towards him eventually but I couldn't believe what was happening

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
How infuriating. My downstairs neighbor doesn't have a collar on his dog and it drives me up a wall. They aren't expensive!

Your dog legally has to have your license tag and a name / contact tag on it at all times technically. i know people take them off in the house though. Its more comfy for the dog that way! A few people i know that use harnessess put all that crap on the harness so that they never forget to put a collar on

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
It would have been very unfortunate for the owner of the labs if a fight broke out as the police would have been involved and their dogs would have been in a mess with 2 staffs defending themselves. Unsupervised dogs with no collars is not only irresponsible but also dangerous.

its always been like this for dogs as long as i can remember you have to have your number on the disc. i dont know if they'll be that strict about now though because of the chips. so long as something can identify the dog as yours i supose its fine.
it is bad no collars though cos if a fight had broke out how were you suposed to deal with 2 dogs if they had nothing to grab. when we got lottie we got them both collars so we had something to grab if needed. the thing with breeds is people think labs and little doggies are lovely and their temprement is so good but the rest of the world without rose tinted glasses knows any breed has the potential and dogs fight its a fact your just lucky that day they didnt the stupid woman

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
How awfull, I'd have been worried for my dog as he's a real softy. I am also sick and tired of people letting their dogs come up to mine at full charge even worse are the ones that appear out of no where. Just last week it was a big male husky, I had my 3 young children with me and |I thought 'oh heck' he turned out to be friendly but I often worry about what I would actually do. I told all the kids to get by me NOW other than that we just had to 'wait and see'. I have a repeat offender (owner) on a walk who's scruffy little thing is almost always without it's owner in sight and I always get Milo by my side as it always has a first sniff then a growl and pop at Milo by which time I send it on it's way aggressively. I a getting close to swearing rudely at this stupid woman when really I just need to ask her politely to get her dog right?!

Re: Irrisponsible dog owner!
Yesterday for the third time i had polish people with dogs charging about, first time it was an EBT then an Alsatian .Yesterday it was two large sized yorkies, came in to the park two football pitches away get off lead and charge into Kassidy and got into a scrap while Sisko dived in to "help". Got my two to behave just as the polish guy arrived, one yorkie ran out of the park and off up the main road while the other went happily bouncing off with it's owner.Of course everyone at the bus stop turns around when the yorkies start sqealing and sees two staffies terrorising the yorkies.
