UPDATE!!
Well after picking little caesar up on friday we registered him with our local vet and got a free puppy check.we took him in today and were confident he would check out ok with just a little bit of a stuffy nose and his dry skin on his tail and ears which we were told was quite common for a staffy to have bad skin but could be treated. After the first vet gave the basic checks she called a more experienced vet to have a look. She gave a good look weighed him at 3.2kg which was ok then checked his stuffy breathing.anyway im blabbing a bit but after all her checks she told us hes 9 weeks not the 16 the vet that saw him before we got him said. Also hed had his vacines to early which probably meant they wouldnt have worked correctly and at the very least he has broncitis(sp) but its a high possibility he has distemper because of his skin problem bad respritory system and his leg shakes and teeth chatter when playing which could be an early sign of fitting.im gutted because he was given a clean bill of health before we got him by a differant vet,and our free check up turned into a £55 bill for all his anti biotics and stuff and if, which we are praying, he only has broncitis we have to carry on his treatment, he cant go out which he loves and he has to have his jabs all over again has anybody had experience with distemper, wed be devostated if we lost him and to look at he seems so healthy and full of life.sorry for the long post just after some help and advice thanks.

Re: UPDATE!!
he was a rescue dog so no other owner as such but i spoke to the lady that did our home visit and stuff and she was disgusted and said the other vet should be covering our vet bills and she was going to speak to the person in charge of the dogs for adoption and i will be having a word with the vet.im very angry with them but more upset because i feel somthing should have been done to help caesar before he came to us and this should have been picked up earlier he was at the shelter for 5 weeks

well you might get soem help towards the vets bills. but what kind of a vet misses a disease like this and gets the age so wrong on such a young pup. i can understand getting the age on an adult wrong but not a pup. what kind of a vet is he. a 9 week old pup needs more than a 16 week pup. like you say the implications of the age difference like the injections and exercise and diet everything

Re: UPDATE!!
If Caesar is found to have tistemper it would be best to inform the rescue centre where he came from as it is a highly infectious viral disease. Fingers crossed this isn't the case.
Sorry to hear how you have been messed around by the professsional people who should have known better. I sincerely hope you get things sorted out and wish you all the best with Caesar.

Re: UPDATE!!
Poor little mite. Let's hope it's a bronchial infection rather than distemper.
My first dog (a border collie bitch) came from a puppy farm. I knew nothing at all about puppy farms back then, but then it was 40 years ago! We were told she was 8 weeks (because we'd asked for an 8 week old pup!) but she was actually around 12/13 weeks. 2 weeks after we got her home she started coughing, had a discharge from her nose and was very lethargic. The vet thought it was almost certainly distemper. She'd had her vaccinations as soon as we got her home, but they hadn't had time to be fully effective & she was quite poorly for about 2 or 3 weeks.
Although health wise she was ok in the end, she was always a very nervy dog & I don't know how much of that was the distemper, or how much was her nature.

Re: UPDATE!!
If he's happy & lively then I doubt that it's distemper. Even mild cases will bring a dog down.
Fingers crossed, eh?

Re: UPDATE!!
good luck and hope all goes well. Can't believe the rescue couldn't get sa little closer wit the age , if your vet says he is 9 weeks and they had him for 5 weeks , surely they would know he was no where near 11 weeks old
Best wishes from Dave and Tilly

Re: UPDATE!!
so sorry to hear this, hopefully it isn't distemper and your pup makes a good recovery, sounds like it is not effecting him too much if he is happy and playful.
I hope the rescue doesn't use the first vet anymore after this

Re: UPDATE!!
What terrible news. I hope that it is nothing more than the brochitis. I did have a dog that survived relatively unscathed from dystemper ??? so there is always hope.

Re: UPDATE!!
I agree with all the replies above.
What a dreadful situation, I so hope he is ok and it is only bronchitis. Sending big hugs from me >< and doggy kisses from my girls.
Can someone please explain to me how a 4 week old puppy resembles an 11 week old puppy?
Where did the first vet get his qualification? I can only imagine what else he get's wrong. As Vanessa said he should be struck off the register and held accountable.

UPDATE!!
just back from the vets and she was massivly impressed with caesars progress his anti biotics have realy helped his skin has improved loads and only has a stuffy nose his chest is cleared and she has ruled out distemper because he made such progress and is a differant dog.he s got another 5 days of tablets to try and clear his nose and if alls well a week from the end of his tablets he can start his vacines again so im thrilled hes also put a kg on in just a week and is lookin better.only downside is no walks till his vacines are done so im gona have to play with him like crazy to burn some of his energy and i imagine ill be tired and wanting a rest long before him.
