Clicker Training
Hey everybody, just wondered if anybody did clicker training with their dogs.I do it with Millie. She loves it and has learned loads of things from it. Who else does this?

Re: Clicker Training
Yes we did with Sophie, we had a personal trainer who came round once a week and went through a training program with Sophie which we followed.
We used cheese and sausage as treats, the sessions lasted about an hour after which time she just colapsed and went to sleep.
She did enjoy them though, and it did help with her training.

Re: Clicker Training
i do clicker training with River, she loves it.. she knows sit, stay, paw, hi 5. lay down. roll over. wait. take it. she knew most of these before clicker training ( my son taught her hi 5 lol) via voice commands, but with the clicker i have taught her using hand signals... she loves it. not only is it a good training aid, its mentally knackers them, and help as security, like when there loud noise instead of comforting her (which you should do) i whack out the old clicker, helps to bond you with your pet and also a good distraction, like if she is doing something thats not productive is chasing our rabbit, then clicker works wonders.. i know its a personal thing thou..i am currently trying to teach her play dead lol..

Re: Clicker Training
Aww cool Bob!
Hey Pado! Yeah it is good, Ive managed to teach her sit, lie down, paw, wave, roll over, stay, and find. She also knows high five but only does this if youre sitting down and didnt do it with the clicker. When we first got her she was very intelligent so training was easier and made even more so with clicker training.
Hey flame, play dead is very good once you have taught it! Good Luck with it! Instead of me just saying play dead its very comical if you make your hand look like a gun and say bang. Thats how Ive taught Millie and shes very, she rolls halfway onto her back and puts her paws in the air submissively! Its very cute! Millie also knew a few commands but clicker training has also helped me teach her with hand signals and show her new and different things!
Shes very good at wave and also lie down, play dead and roll over. However, she will only do roll over in a comfortable environment because tonight on our walk I did some clicker training but she could hear a dog in a nearby garden constantly barking and people walking towards us and wouldnt roll over because of this! Bless her! Her wave has definetly progressed because just tonight I have taught her to lift her paw 3 times to make it look like shes waving rather than just lifting her paw once which is huge progress. Its definetly something more people should consider because learning becomes faster. The click pinpoints the exact moment your dog is doing the right thing and the treat can come in a few seconds later. It teaches them (if the clicker is introduced correctly) that at the exact point of the click their action is correct and the treat is a reward for that (or whatever form of rewarding you use.

Re: Clicker Training
Clicker training works. I thought I would never be able to teach Troy, as soon has he see's treats he go's mental.
I had to start laying him down myself then clicking in that position LOL.
After like 2 days he now knows it perfectly.

Troy is ignorant though and sometimes won't listen and perform of he knows you don't have a treat but I always make sure he does as he is told!

Re: Clicker Training
Kaos is only 8 weeks old and I've been clicker training her to sit, which she does quite well now. In a few more days I'm going to add lie down :-) but so far so good. My clicker doesn't seem too loud though, it only cost a few quid from the local pet shop mind.

Re: Clicker Training
Sure is she's a girl just over 8 weeks! The only moan I have is she keep biting very hard , I give her Time out in the crate, constantly say no but I think I just need to ride it out. Going to try and teach her lie down over the next few days. I just wish I could walk her, kill some of that energy already lol

Cool Jazz, how old is your dog now?
Awwww brophski, how sweet (sorry for saying he) Shes a beauty, bet your a proud daddy. Lol! It mustnt be nice, wishing you could take them out! Enjoy them whilst they're small and cute and nto causing trouble pooping on walks when you dont have enough bags! hehe! A very annoying habit, bet you can't wait for her to get her jabs!
