Hi all! Me and my daughter took Murphy for a walk yesterday ovr to my local, a wee country pub abt 4 mile from us. It was vry interesting to get the different responses from the people we met. On the way over we stopped at a farm house gate as their were 2 dogs yapping behind it. I took my dog ovr 2 see his recation as ever he was fine with them and they soon settled as they seen he was threat 2 them, but as we were moving of the lady come out and asked wat we were doing i explained but she wasn,t having none of it she told me that dog is dangerous! I basically told her she was full of * and carryed on, my daughter really was supprised at her dislike to our dog i explained 2 her that she was jst narrow minded, anyway landed at the pub it was a completly different response they fell for him they thought he looked great his manners were great they couldn,t praise him enough and of course me and my daugther were so proud. But the reactions of people r from 1 extreme 2 the next it boggles, and 2 top it all of the the 2 pints of stout slipped down a treat drooling !

Dog Walk Empty Re: Dog Walk

I have exactly the same problem... and I don't even have the dog yet!
I am due to get my puppy in 8 days... when she is 8 weeks.
Can't wait obviously and all my family is so excited to have this new family member coming on board!
The surrounding friends though... they are not so happy!
All my daughter's friends and mums at nursery told me that we are CRAZY to get that breed... that people will avoid us.. will never send anymore their kids to play with mine.... they will think of me as a hooligan.... etc etc..
Well I tried to explain that many stereotypes are due to bad press and one bad apple does not make all apples rotten!
They just do not listen and stubbornly keep having a go...
well.. even if I appreciate their concern, I believe that owners make the dog's temperament good or bad.
And I am not interested to have as friends or acquaintances people who judge me from the breed I choose as pet... or, more to the point, who judge my dog from his face and what some others have done!
It is such an unbelievable thing this prejudice towards staffies.
I can understand as parent that some dogs have bad reputations... but hell... Jack Russells or Chow chow are far more dangerous for their kids.
People, as usual, should get some knowledge first before using their mouth.
I know I will be under scrutiny when walking the dog... but hey... I know my little friend will be the sweetest girl around:-)
We will make people change their mind!

Ciao

I feel like I am in the same situation as Marco. I love this breed, waited to get a dog till my kids were a little older and till I had enough time with my job to spend time with/train/exercise a dog, found a great breeder whose dogs we met and love...etc, etc...this has been a two year process. The one thing I did not expect was the reaction when I mention that we are getting a Staffy. The big "oh, you're getting a puppy!" smile evaporates, and I get comments like, well, I hope you know what you're doing. Even my wonderful husband, who likes Staffies and is supportive (though I did have to talk him into getting ANY kind of dog) said last night, you know, people may not hang out with you and the dog at the kids' sports games, just be prepared.

What can you say in these situations?

I guess Callie and I will prove them all wrong. Rolling Eyes

exactly Michele...
Do not bother... your husband will fall for the dog.
with love and care your Callie will be a wonderful friend!
Personally I think that those who won't hang out with me anymore are better lost than found!
People so judgmental (lacking info) are not welcome in my life!
Probably the dog will make my life easier, parting the real friends from the others... the valuable ones from the idiots!
