Hi & welcome to the forum.
I take it that this is the only time he acts like this? Has he always been this way or is it a recent thing?

Dominance. Either, if you want him running free, have him muzzled and on a lead so you can check his behavior and correct it.
Or crate him whilst visitors are around, don't give him a chance to display this behaviour.
Usually my view is: if dog attacks owner for no good reason, put it down.
But here, its obvious dominance and can be sorted.

Re: staffie going for the owner!!
I'd say it's likely to be dominance, but I wonder why it's only just started. Have you argued with any vistors recently, or have there been any upsets when there have been visitors in the house?
Is he fit & healthy? Are his ears nice & clean? Does he show any signs of anxiety at any other time?
Personally I wouldn't muzzle him, I'd put a collar & lead on him & give him commands every so often to reinforce that he does what you tell him to do. When the visittors arrive, make him sit by your side when you open the door & walk with you into whatever room you're going to be. If he still kicks off at least you have the comtrol of the lead & can take him out of the room, or put him in a crate if you have one.
Don't let the visitors fuss him or even acknowledge him until this is sorted out.

I think I'm going to have to try this one. Monty is TERRIBLE when people are in the house visiting. He jumps and nips, he is SO exciteable that it's something we need to sort out as it does get out of hand.

No fear, if he's crated, at the very least have a towel over it if he's in the same room as everyone. If not, he may go batshit crazy.

I'd only crate him if the crate's in another room!
