Re: smoker or non-smoker?
i enjoy sitting outside on a morning with my coffee and my cig listening to the world go by. itsbetter in the summer but i dont mind any weather. i like to have a smoke when i have alcohol. coffee and alcohol wouldnt be the same and i would be misserable without either and i refuse to lead a misserable life so i will continue to smoke and not be ashamed or let anyone else bother me. as i said on here there is no worse anti smoker than an ex smoker and my brother in law is just one of those people. the obnoxious arrogant pig

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
Good for you Wazza, it takes a lot of commitment I know. My Dad smoked for about 40 years and packed up it can be done.
At one time all my family, Mum, Dad and all 3 brothers were smokers I am the only member of my family never to have done it. I think they have all stopped now though.

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
Non smoker. Used to have the odd few in uni but I never bought my own. Have nothing agaisnt smoking, I find it a very interesting occupation. I love drawing people smoking.
I think smoking is what sets us apart from the animals. Its just-so unnatural isn't it? People who get all preachy about it should get off their high horses. Pollution from cars is far worse then anyones cigarette smoke.
If I didn't have such a weak chest I might take it up as a hobby just to irritate people.

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
non smoker - tried it when I was in my teens but always hated it.
besides I'd never live it down if I did smoke because my parents used to smoke when I was a kid and my brother and I nagged and nagged at them to stop (we were only about 6 and 8 years old) until they finally quit cold turkey for us. (suppose I did them a favour really!)

I've never smoked although all my family did. My oh has also never smoked (thank god) but both his parents died from smoking related cancer.

That's what I don't understand. Smoking makes you cough, makes your fingers & teeth yellow, makes your breath & clothes smell & gives you cancer...........and you smoke because........?

Sure, you can get lung cancer (same as any cancer) without smoking, but my oh's parents died from a cancer that is only caused by smoking. What a waste - both were still relatively young. His mum was onlt 10 years older than I am now.

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
sorry to hear that. my wifes family on her mum's side have for generations have never made it past 66 due to cancer, we are hoping now her mum has been given the all clear, she'll be the first to make it past this as she turns 66 this year

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
That's so sad.
I know you can always justify whatever you want to believe (ie my gran smoked for many years & lived till she was nearly 100), but the facts really do speak for themselves. Even if you forget the health implications, why on earth do you want to smell like an ash tray?

I smoke because i like it the day i decide i hate smoking i will give up.
My nans 91 shes smoked bascially all her life smokes over 20 cigs a day has she got anything wrong with her not a thing she lives at home by herself and her dog and has no problems.
Personally i think our cards our dealt us when were born i know we can "reduce" risks of stuff happening but i personally think whatevers gonna happen too us will happen however many precautions we take too avoid it. you only live once so for me i do what i enjoy and smokings one of the things i enjoy at this moment in my life.

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
Non-smoker but honestly wasn't ever drawn to it. Tried cigars, they don't do anything for me. I'd rather have a beer. My grandmother smoked until she got emphasima but she smoked non-stop and still lived till her late 80s. When I was a kid, we could smell her letters before getting all the way to the mailbox! I do love the smell of a good pipe!

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
My husband is a smoker. He gives up and then starts again. I wish he would just stop forever I get worried. He hates the "born-again-non-smokers" as well. He tries so hard and just falters at the last hurdle. However, there are strict rules... he ALWAYS must smoke outside, NEVER in our car and is responsible for making sure there are NO butts lying around! My house and car will not be an ash tray and while I understand and respect his right as an adult to smoke my right is not to be a passive smoker as I really can't stand the smell.

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
I'd just really like someone to explain to me why they want to smell of stale tobacco?
I don't think smokers fully realise how horrible that smells!

Re: smoker or non-smoker?
Another smoker here. I started in my 20s I enjoy smoking and have no intentions for giving up. Hubby and I both smoke and don't have children.
My GP doesn't mind that I smoke because, I have a degnerative condtion. My consultant gave me 15 years to live at the age of 35. So odds are smoking isn't going to have any impact on how long I live. So I'm going to carry on.
