Diet.
First off a big hello to everyone. I've been lurking around the forum for a few days and decided to join in.
I have an eight month old staffy called Murphy and I would love to get some opinions and comments on his diet.
He gets, spread over two meals, 200g of Canidae grain free Pure Elements and two thirds of a tin of Ziwipeak wet food. To this I add raw chicken necks, raw beef/chicken/lamb/heart/kidney/liver/tongue/lamb ribs, (not all at the same time obviously ). He also gets either a lamb or beef neck to chew on twice a week.
I've read on here that you shouldn't feed raw food and kibble mixed together but not sure why?
Anyway, he seems to thriving on it as he weighs 18kg. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Re: Diet.
Raw food and kibble digest at different speeds. I'm not a feeding expert though so best left to someone more knowledable than me.

Re: Diet.
It sounds like a great diet as long as you are feeding the kibble and raw in separate meals due to different digestion times

Re: Diet.
There's no problem feeding raw & commercial food as long as they are fed at seperate meals. Commercial food (dry & tinned) can take about 8-10 hours to digest whereas raw only takes about 4-6 hours. If you mix the two together you can cause a stomach upset.
It's usually better to feed raw in the morning & commercial in the evening to give both types of food adequate digestion time.

Thanks for your replies (Dr.Johns Silver?? )
Murphy seems to be doing fine with his diet the way it is, but I think I'll change it so he has raw in the morning as suggested.
Ideally I'd like to feed an all raw diet but I don't feel like I have the confidence or know-how to do it. Puppyhood is such an important stage of their life I want to be sure he's getting the proper nutrition.

Thanks for the links Caryll, they certainly make interesting reading.
There are three of four 'proper' butchers near to where I live, so getting the meat and bones would be no problem.
I guess it's just a case of taking the plunge and throwing away his commercial food.
