Did anyone see The Sun today?
There was a story in The Sun newspaper today about a little girl who was killed by an American Bulldog, they were sentancing the owner and the judge said something along the lines of 'I would not reccommend owning one of these 'types' of dogs as they are a banned breed'. It definately said it was an American Bulldog, not an American Pitt Bull. I didn't think AB's were banned in this country? Am I wrong?

No those four are banned, but we have loads on the dangerous dogs list. Pretty much the same as Ireland I think but Japanese tosa's are banned.

none of the dogs i mentioned are banned here in Ireland Steve, their just on the dangerous dogs list. they just have to be muzzled and kept under control when out in public, and you can only walk them one at a time

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
they should add jack russels and yorkies on it too, in my option

yeah im supposed to, but i never did and i never will, i think muzzles just stereotypes the dog even more, and makes them out to be vicious looking

no i haven't even got a muzzle, and the cops wouldn't bother you either they have enough to be doing besides doing a dog wardens job as well, i actually passed the dog warden a few times around here when i was walking Katie and he never even blinked an eye at me.

I can't believe you have all those dogs on the dangerous dogs list in Ireland!!! I think that is shocking! My 2 would be on that list and i think that is very sad. Vinnie and Gizmo would hate to be muzzled. They are powerful dogs but i am aware of that and act accordingly as i am sure 99% of owners of these breeds do.

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
A colleuge at work asked me today "does you dog have to be muzzled" couldn't stop laughing! She's an older lady too, it just shows how uneducated some people can be!

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
The whole 'dangerous dog' thing is a complete shambles. You have to ask why it is, that every topic under the sun is informed by experts except so called dangerous dogs. Why can't they get the bona fide breeders and dog psychologists in to determin whether a dog is dangerous or not, or whether it is just the imbecile owner who is dangerous?
I've only ever had 2 dogs. The first one was dangerous. He was a rescue taken in by me from my local neighbourhood because he was going to be put to sleep the next day if nobody took him. I got him when he was 18 months old and he died when he was 17.
He was the scourge of the neighbourhood before he came to me. After the first few days of him not moving from his position by the front door, and snarling at me whenever he saw me, and me having to put 2 sets of gardening gloves on to get his lead on him - he just suddenly realised 'Hey! it's ok here!' Pretty soon the 2 of us were inseparable.
What gets me is - he was a Jack Russell. Now, my present dog Buster is a huge staffy cross and he's a total sweetie yet people who wouldn't have swatted an eyelid at my JR (who WAS dangerous) look at poor Buster as if he's going to go beserk at any moment. Buster would lick them to death.

Completely agree and how mad bout your JRT as i had one too, he was described by all the vets in this area as vicious and to be fair he did bite a few people but my family loved him and he loved us!!! He was extremely protective and you definitely couldn't have a row with someone with him next to you because he would go for them. He even went for my ex, who is a 6 foot 5 inch ex amateur boxer, and actually bit him a fair few times. Funny thing is my family HATE Vinnie and Gizmo and they are so well behaved and i can't imagine them ever biting anyone BUT people misjudge little dogs and let them get away with things because they are little and can 't do much damage. When Alfie (my old JRT) bit people they just had a bruise, if Gizmo bit someone i think there would be blood and if Vinnie bit someone i dread to think what the outcome would be. I guess i am more on the ball with them than i ever was with Alfie.

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
Its a shame that i know for an almost certain fact that everyone who meets blondy now with oh wow she is so cute and adorable and wont stop petting her will think twice when she is fully grown and thats when she's on her own when i got my adults people stay clear of her as well she walks towards them and i can see she is just being friendly trying to introduce herself and they just avoid at all cost even walking in a ditch or crossing the road. It is so hard to even socialise bull breed dogs because everyone stays clear and keeps their dogs away as if their the plague and then when their not socialised we get the blame what the *. I'v never judge breeds I've never judged people who are with those breeds, I don't expect the same back but myself and my dogs get it back ten fold anyway. I think i should start showing the attitude from now on then and see how they like but then what i'm playing their game in thinking the only people who owns these breed are riff raff.

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
A guy in work asked if Logan wears a muzzle!!! (Logan...wear a muzzle, he'd wear it out licking it!!)ha ha!! idiot!! He came in to my office and asked what breed he is, i replied 'he's a staff' and he goes ''oh.....right.....erm....should he not be muzzled then?''
I corrected him instantly and said they are 1 of only 2 breeds the Kennel Club would recommend with children! That shut him up!
What a fool!!

Re: Did anyone see The Sun today?
unfortunately there is alot of uneducated people.
What really gets me is my partner got bitten by a Shih-Tzu (which has left a scar) and all the police did was warn the owner. If that was my staffy that had bitten then they would of had him put down.
Also my friends staff x lab got bitten by a jack russell and again nothing is said.It seems to be that because its a small dog it doesn't matter but in my opinion it does matter...No dog should bite no matter its breed or size.

That does seem to be the problem because they are small they away with it but i also think its the damage a jrt can do and what a staff could do, but your right no dog should bite no matter what and people shouldn't get away with it.

What really got me though was that the owner didn't even apologize...When we told her what her dog had done she just shrugged her shoulders.

As long as you report it, she will soon learn her lesson, but if you ask me people who just shrug off their dogs behaviour won't learn their lesson even if their dog gets taken off of them and they just don't care, and then what the dog gets punished.

Just out of curiosity, what is the other breed deemed most suitable with children by the kc? I'm thinking Newfoundland?Hayley109 wrote:A guy in work asked if Logan wears a muzzle!!! Not sure if it's KC reg......but if it is, I think my daughter might have one.
Looks like a red nose and Blue has wizzed on it's head twice now and he hasn't even retaliated with a growl.
