harness
Hey all,
did anyone used this harness:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B000OIRLO6/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_1?ie=UTF8&index=1
My boy (~4months) pulling me all our walks and I already can feel his strenght. Try now to train him with treats, but I use just collar and lead so think harness would be better and easier. Any advice? Thank you ><

Re: harness
We prefer to use a harness for Suki. You should really try to train him not to pull. When he starts to pull turn around in the opposite direction. It will slow down your walks but he will learn that pulling will not get him anywhere faster.

Re: harness
I haven't used one myself, but I can't see how that type of harness would stop pulling.
I've always used a collar; whenever my dog starts to pull & do an about turn & as the lead tightens I say "heal" & give a gentle tug so that he has to follow. If you do that everytime he starts to pull eventually he'll be hanging back to see what you're going to do next! It takes a little while, and you'll look pretty silly to other people but it gives really good results.
If you really have a lot of trouble with him pulling you'd be better off with a Halti or a Halti Harness (which has a lead ring on the front; this uses the dog's own weight against himself & stops the pulling).

Re: harness
well I did with changing direction, but when I change it then I need to pull him usually I stop and wait when he is calm and ask to come to near my leg and then we start to go, but just when I step he starts to pull. So yesterday we were going to the park (which is 5 mins way) and we spent 30mins to go there:D I noticed that he starts to pull harder when we are going home or when he knows where we are going.

If you stop, so will your dog. That doesn't teach him to stay with you. Yes, you'll have to give him a quick tug when you change direction, but it should only need a quick tug & he'll catch up with you. That's when you praise him & maybe offer a treat. Don't forget to use a trigger word like "heal" or "close" when you tug the lead.
I know it'll take an age to get anywhere, but it does work, honestly!
He will always want to get to somewhere if he knows where he's going & that's why he pulls when he's going to the park or going home again. But once you've got the heal work sorted out this should stop.

Re: harness
Those no pull harnesses are not very good as they tighten around the dog when it pulls.
A good harness i would reccomend is A shaped- they step into the harness and it fits up around the shoulders with a secure clip and D rings for the lead to fasten on to.
If he starts pulling, and you say you have tried the change direction technique, make him sit and wait at your side until he calms down. Once calm give a high pitched command of 'heel' and set off at a slightly quicker pace than useual to make him keep up.
Continue this everytime he pulls and he should quickly learn not to pull.
All 3 of my babies walk on A shaped harnesses and they dont pull anymore.
If I can be of help to you in any way please just shout

Re: harness
Gizzi pictured below is wearing an A shape harness:
But I have also inc the link to an ebay listing for them also which has better pictures so you can see what I mean by A shape. Some people call them step in harnesses.
Here is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOG-HARNESS-PINK-PURPLE-LARGE-MEDIUM-SMALL-and-EXTRA-SMALL-/120805684768?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Dogs&var=&hash=item61cd042bf2
Most staffies should fit in the medium sized step in/A shaped harnesses.
Another one I would reccomend is the Ezydog quick fit harness, link here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-EZYDOG-Quick-Fit-Dog-Harness-Choice-Sizes-Colours-/120846240423?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Dogs&var=&hash=item61cd8030e3
I love the Ezy dog ones and will soon be investing in 3 of them for when we are fell walking as allows freer movement of the front legs when on long walks.
Hope Ive helped

Re: harness
We use the Julius K9 harness on Rocky. They are used by the German police force dogs. The handle on the top is very useful if you need to get your pooch quicky away from another dog. We also got the chest strap for it to make it more comfortable when travelling in the car with the seatbelt clip.

Re: harness
I've never found that any harness without a front ring to clip a lead onto will stop pulling without proper training to go with it! However, if you're using the right training your dog will stop pulling anyway!

Re: harness
No your right.
Even with the correctly fitting harness collar what ever you use, nothing is a replacement for good training.
I get people ringing me up saying 'Ive put him/her on a harness and he stills pulls what do I do'. When I visit the person is clearly not giving the dog 'feedback' when he walks correctly therefor dosent realise what he is doing is either right or wrong.
I start with early harness training and my 3 can now all walk on harness or collar without pulling at all. I have had to train them to walk both ways due to them training as assistance dogs and being required to walk loose lead on a collar.
No amount of harnesses, collars, etc etc will be a replacement for good training.
Hard work and training will pay off better with the correct tools, dont just expect the dog to stop pulling due to him now being on a harness.

Re: harness
Hey;) just came back from walk and today was sooo successful day for me and Ramzi. He pulled just few times, but when I told him 'heal' he stopped for a sec and wait for me. I used clicker and reward boiled sausage it helped me a lot. Hope it will work other times as well.
