Custard again.....
Hi all... Well its been 2 weeks now and still no luck with walking her outside the house . We have been doing everything people have told us a few steps each day, and I know it's all change for her, but reallity am I ever going to get custard to walk outside ? She just gets a few steps out and she shakes soo much, If no then is it possible to still have her as a pet in the home as at the moment I'm giving her runs in the garden at least 4 times a day but she still doesent seem to be exercised enough and is really getting quite full on in the house. Just a reminder, she is 2 years old and was found on the London roads pos she lived on the street with a homeless guy ? She has been in the home where we got her from for about 5 months, we arevstill struggling with her toileting too. Goes well for a few days then goes all wrong , then it happens again. My whole point to these questions are we have 2 children that adore her and need to know if there is light at the end of the tunnel, I knew this wasn't going to be easy but any suggestions will be accepted , thanks for reading

Re: Custard again.....
Time and patience.
You have to earn her trust also.
I take it your doing all the basics? She will catch on, it just seems to click one day. Xx

Re: Custard again.....
I'm afraid you're going to need a lot of kindness & patience. It can take a rescue dog a few months, sometimes, to overcome the understandable anxiety they feel when they first go to their new home.
She may think that, by going outside, she's going to have to stay outside. Only time & consistency will change that. When you're out, don't sympathise with her panic; try to act as though nothing's wrong & just encourage her with a squeeky toy or treats. Also, if she's been living on the streets her toilet training will have been zero, so again, more patience. Just clear up any accidents without a fuss (don't tell her off or get angry as she'll just get more anxious & that'll make it likely to happen more often.
Just keep trying every day - a few steps outside & back again. Try to turn back before she actually starts to panic. Eventually you'll see that she's taking a few more steps.
Good luck. I'm sure that eventually she'll realise that she isn't going to be turfed out to fend for herself & she'll begin to settle down.
