my parter has just took roxie for a walk and come across a staff/pitbull. he said roxie only started barking at this other dog when it barked at her. and once he told roxie to hush and sit she did so quietly with no problems. and then started barking again when the other dog began barking. is this a bad sign already?

Your dog was reacting to the behaviour of the other dog.

If socailising is done correctly it can be very rewarding for both handler and dog to be able to play/walk with other dogs.

Dont rush into getting her a housemate just yet as she hasnt been with you very long and you need to establish rules and routine with her.

She was just reacting to the other dog so I wouldn't worry.
