RAW Food/Bones
Ok, this is kinda a dumb question, but the Raw food isnt very popular around here so I am asking simply out of curiousity...This mostly goes out to caryll because i know that is what she feed her puppers. How do you make there food? you take the ingreidents shove it in a bowl, er do you cut it up, process it? Like take a typicall meal and kinda explain how you would prepare it for them. If that this makes sense YAY!! If not well Oh well lol.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: RAW Food/Bones
I know you asked Caryll but what I do is take a chicken quarter and give it to my dogs outside (seperately). It is thawed but whole and all - literally just hand it to them. I also will give them a liver with it (usually give it to them and they slurp it down). Eggs go in a bowl but really this is just like it says. Hope that helps. Sometimes I give a veggie mush too in their food bowl. If I get a whole chicken, I cut it into quarters first. Ribs just go straight to the dogs. I do it outside as it can get a bit messy. Lamb is the same. Really not much if any prep. Just make sure it isn't cooked or frozen. Often times bigger pieces are better.

Same, really, except that Dempsey is chicken intolerant (all poultry, actually) so he doesn't get any. I rarely bother with veg, but he does get some sometimes. Watching him eat bones is a sight to behold, a section of lamb's spine or neck (about 6 - 10 inches long) will be finished in about 2 minutes at the most!
I'll give him offal (liver or kidneys) about once or sometimes twice a week, but not too much as it's very rich & can upset his stomach.
So yes, basically the food gets given as it is. I don't cut it up unless it's tripe, and then I only do it because it cuts down the pigging awful mess he makes with it otherwise!

Re: RAW Food/Bones
Chicken bones are fine IF feed raw.
I feed raw to and try to feed large items such as whole chicken (head and feet too!) whole ribcages etc so no i don't bother preping anything

Re: RAW Food/Bones
we too feed the bones and raw food diet (BARF) we all love it! We feed mainly chicken portions and veg. sometimes scraps too these days. We buy the sainsburys basics frozen chicken portions they seem to be the cheapest. We get out and refrigerate what we need for the next am the evening before and in the morning for that evening. We buy basics frozen veg. which my husband shoves in the food processor (to make smaller and therefore more digestable) he returns it to the freezer still frozen but chopped and adds it to his food. We feed frozen tripe (thawed) from time to time and I get lamb necks, kidneys, ribs. etc from the butchers. Last week he gave me a HUGE cow knee and shin wow what a challenge it kept Milo bust for days!! We used it as a days' food as there was plently left on it and after even that and getting fed the next am as usual he went baclk to it for a week before we got rid of the remains lol! We always feed him outside too btw!

Did you have Dempsey tested for intolerance to certain foods? I swear my dog is intolerant to cheese and chicken but i dont have proof of it.....yet.

No, we found out by trial & error! The poultry was obvious, because every time he ate it he was ill - awful bum gravy! He gets very little in the way of dairy products, but I don't think they're a problem to him.
Dairy products, though, are a common allergen. Dogs often can't cope with them after weaning.

They only go aggressive if they're not used to bones regularly, or if they are food aggressive/possessive anyway. A bone is a high value item of food so you have to be really sure of your ability to control your dog's reactions from an early age. It has nothing to do with it being raw, they just value bones highly!
