Therapy Dogs?

I read some ware that staffys can be used as therapy dogs, does anyone know what this is or has further info?

I don't see why not they do love people. I would imagine that there is a tempermanent test or some sort of certfication they would have to go through.

I don't no the whole ins and outs, I'm sure there was someone on here that had attempted the exams, sorry can't remember who!! This was an interesting link

Will do got another 4 months if the info is correct but I will look into it now.

Both of my older dogs were therapy dogs for 5 years. Neither are staffies, but they will take any breed and cross breed. They are only concerend at the temperament of the dogs and you have to have owned them for about 6 months I think it is. If you have any questions I can do my best to answer.

Yes the Staffy is an excellent PAT dog (Pets As Therapy). Just do a search on google or whatever, you will find anything you need to know. Below is a link to the official site.

I do remember someone here wanting to do it with their staff, and I think they couldn't for some reason, but I really can't remember why.

My harv is actually in the process of hopefull becoming a therapy dog, i've sent my application in just waiting for a time to take him for a test

Sounds a great thing for a staffie to do seeing as they love people so much. I would need to do a load of training if I were to do it with Tinkerbell, she would bowl everyone over!

Hi, I take olly to see my dad in a care home ,he has altzehiemers so do most of the residents but olly puts a smile on the faces of residents and staff , its amazing to see how gentle a dog can be with old frail old people!

I think it is a great thing to do. A lot of old people have to leave their animals to go into a home, so PAT is a great thing to lighten their day's up!
