Re: Are staffys watchdogs?
You really do have the wrong dog!
A watch dog is one that will alert you to trespassers & will protect your house aganist burglars etc.
A stafford may or not bark if he hears something strange (at night for example) but is likely to wag his tail at a burglar & help him pack the loot into his bag!

Jigerstar. Where is this dog of yours ?? We still need to see some pictures. If you haven't already got one then please don't go out and get a staffie, it really isn't the dog for you

Re: Are staffys watchdogs?
reading your posts it sounds like you need a dog that can be trained to be guard dog which a staffie won't. if you want a strong loving lap dog that needs plenty exercise but will play and give you big licks and want lots of cuddles then a staff is the dog to get but for what you have been asking it is not the dog for you. i hope you find what you want but to train a dog to be aggressive or at least wary of people is not really fare on the dog or the poeple that come to visit your house and will only cause you and the dog endless problems and if anyone complains or the dog gets out on its own it is the dog that will suffer in the end. please remember that modern day dogs have been bred and trained to be pets not our protectors.

Re: Are staffys watchdogs?
Did you put a pic in the Gallery section? I have to admit that I don't remember seeing one! If you put one in the Gallery I'm sure people will love to see it.
It just seems that you've got a stafford for all the wrong reasons. They are fantastic family dogs, but really aren't known for protection/guard duties.

Ha , Bull Mastiff, my lads got 2 and Tilly's sent them both off packing (only just we waved them goodbye in the car) . The only people that should have dogs trained in agression are the police and security patrols. These dogs should never be allowed around people in ordinary life because work and socialising these dogs don't mix, they can be trained to be friendly under supervision but once the agression is trained into them they could never be left alone as a family dog with the kids, that would just be too mental

Re: Are staffys watchdogs?
Jigerstar, you are in the wrong place and looking for the wrong dog. You insist that you do not plan on training your dog to be aggressive but every one of your topics suggest the opposite. And I too checked your forum history - no pictures. Unless you're referring to your avatar, which, as I and others have told you, is an American Bully, not a staff, and the two breeds are VERY different.

Re: Are staffys watchdogs?
I think every dog is different and some are subissive some are not so it depends on your own dog. I have one that will help you pack up the goodies and another that would guard them but saying that the breed on the whole is a faithful freindly one.
