Taking Milly out
We are desperate to take Milly out as she is getting hyper we were told by our vet she can only go out 2 weeks after her last injection which she had Saturday due to her age. My mate who went to a different vet was told her pup can go out a week after last injection. Do you think we should just do like our vet said cos we confused??

Re: Taking Milly out
ye its two weeks after her second one then some vets leave three weeks inbetween then its a week after.
but if you know people that have dogs that you know are uptoo date with there jabs you will be fine to let them socialise now just not walking alover outside

Any ideas for the hyper state she goes in, she goes mental for about a hour, she just wants to be into everythin we play with her but she is so mad we feel like we are shouting at her all the time

Re: Taking Milly out
I would trust your vet really. They are so hyper though I know your frustration! You can always start training them at home, it will tire them out too! Put them in a good sted for later!

Re: Taking Milly out
I was told it was ten days after second injection also your supposed to be able to take them out onto concrete stay away from grass/mud areas because they hold alot more muck than concrete does.

Re: Taking Milly out
She will play fetch well her own game of fetch but she is getting there. She is coming on a treat really vet was amazed with her when she was trying to weigh her i told her to sit and she did it just when her mad head is on there is no talking to her and if you try to pick her up to calm her down she nips.

Re: Taking Milly out

Re: Taking Milly out
The nipping thing you really need to stop. But yes its very frustrating but I really wouldnt take Milly out until advised. If your doing all the training try little games indoors too. I had tunnels (designed for kids) for mine to play in and just anything to make home time more challenging. It won't be long and Milly can go out! Although they never seem to tire, be it a 10 hour walk

sadly this is untrue as any dog that walks on the concrete may be carrying infection and deseise on there paws and even the rain does nothing to stop it

Re: Taking Milly out
pointing is a total no no it will give her something to bark and nip at the only thing you can do is take her away into her crate or into another room and leave her for a couple of mins then she will get to know nipping means no atention and staffys hate no atention but its also really important to not speak to her when she does it
Guest- Guest
Re: Taking Milly out
and yes we are kidding but some days there is no amount of excercise that seems to tire them out lol

Re: Taking Milly out
say no if she does again say nothing put her in her crate say nothing close door and leave for a couple of mins give no attension
then come back open the door dont tell her to come wait for her to come to you i know it may seem a little cruel but you need to do it now becouse a fully grown staff will hurt if they do it

Re: Taking Milly out
Yes kidding (almost!!) A firm no is a must and ignoring too, but Milly is young so won't catch on straight away. Be persistant, and start doing it now even if you dont thinks its helping. Milly will learn and the younger you start implementing it the better. x

I'm afraid concrete holds as many infections as grass/mud, so is still not good.

MILLY-MOO wrote:So just put her in her crate and leave the door open and just say no
What I'vealways done when a pup nips is say a low, deep & drawn out "Noooo!" & turn away, totally ignoring her. If she carries on, gently push her away, say "no" again & ignore. If she still carries on, calmly pick her up & put her in her crate & shut the door. Don't shout or get irritable as she'll pick up on it & will react. After 5 minutes maximum, whenshe's nice and quiet (hopefully), open her crate & walk away. Let her come to you & give gently, calm praise. It WILL take a while, but it will sink in. Staffords hate being ignored, so she'll soon realise that when she misbehaves she'll be ignored.

The chances are that your pup won't pick up anything, but how would you feel if it did? Distemper & Leptospirosis are still killers.

Re: Taking Milly out
as said only guideline's.. a hate it when kuma even looks at me funny a start a convo with her .. to witch she just licks my face sorry to highjack thread but is the booster for yearly? i.e what does it do ..>?

Re: Taking Milly out
There's a lot of controversy about that. Some say that some of the things you vaccinate against only need doing every two or three years, and you can tell if they are protected with a simple blood test. Some say it should be done every year. Trouble is, insurance companies insist on up to date vaccinations & very few of them will accept a blood test as proof that the dog is protected, so once a year it is!

Re: Taking Milly out
I hate insurance companies.....there is always something in small print and I'm too stupid to spot it.....Car insurance went up this year from £200 to £1,000 with 11 years no claims bonus because of my post code.....joke
Guest- Guest
Re: Taking Milly out
pfft am £1800 a year for ma traders at 21 !! think thats pritty good thats with my post code using my own lockup !! and can drive just about anything on my policy even imports
Guest- Guest
Re: Taking Milly out
I know my post code is the dearest in this county........it's down to insurance scams where more claims were made from Blackburn last year than the rest of England put together. I was shocked an extra years no claims bonus yet costing me £800 more...no points and never claimed
Guest- Guest
Re: Taking Milly out
All aside, insurance for Kuma should be a must, or just stick £10 a month away just incase of emergancy. No need for a bank then

Re: Taking Milly out
I went with Sainsbury's - £13 pm for an un-neutered BT. And they paid out £2000+ without a quibble only a month after I took it out!

Re: Taking Milly out
Thank You Caryll I'll have a look at them.....did you have to pay it first and then claim it back. I know many are doing this now which is no good for me.....I can't afford to save up a few grand and leave it in the bank just incase I need it until i get it back

Re: Taking Milly out
its your vet that can help you there blue you need to find if they do direct insurance claims
Guest- Guest
Re: Taking Milly out
We went with Homebase 10.67 a month for there Gold package wich covers allsorts, third party, boarding for family illness etc we have to pay the first 50.00 pound. And it is down to your vet if you pay or direct claim.

Re: Taking Milly out
I went with animal friends over the net, quite cheap really, but never had to make a claim. The insurance the vets offered was "Pets plan" but it was hugely more expensive

Re: Taking Milly out
the most important thing in your insurance is it needs to be a for life policy as if its not you can only claim once every 3 years on the same condition and if its something they need treatment reguler you could still end up with a massive bill
ND BEFORE YOU GO LOOKING JANEY IM WITH THE SAME AS YOU AND THERE POLICYS ARE FOR LIFE I KNOW YOU WORRY LOL
