The great escape and bank job!
Well I had an interesting morning yesterday. I decided to got to my local bank and thought it would be nice to take Bella for a walk as I knew it would be packed in the town due to xmas and she has had no experience of crowds before.
So of we went she was perfect with the crowds in every way. We got to the bank and I decided to tie her up out side the bank and went inside to get some cash, after all what could she get up too. I walked up to the counter and started my transactions. Moments later there was a pawing at my legs, I looked down and low and behold it was Bella waggin her tail.
Upon further inspection she had chewed thought her lead, then waited at the doors for someone to walk in as they are automatic ones, and then promptly walked on in.
I now have to seek out a suitable lead so she cannot do the same in future, lol.

Re: The great escape and bank job!
Well there are cameras out side and a very busy pedestrian street. And there is now theft of staffies in our area I am glad to say.
Re: The great escape and bank job!
I have to agree I would not leave mine alone unsupervised and outside. We do leave Suki in the car if we will be gone for less than 5 minutes though because she can't get into too much trouble inside of the car.

I love her to death and even though unemployed at the moment she gets the very best of every thing, food, insurance, micro chipped, love, exercise etc.
She gets complimented on how well behaved and loving she is.

Don't feel bad at all. This forum is a place for people to learn and no one is the know all expert. The fact that you have joined and participated in a forum about the breed proves that you are very responsible. It's a learning process and every experinence we can share helps everyone involved.

Re: The great escape and bank job!
TBH I am pleased she did come and find me and not run off, which I guess could easily have happened.
Re: The great escape and bank job!
I must say I would never leave Rommel tied up outside as I can pretty much guarantee he wouldn't be there when I came back out again. I definitely think Staffies attract the attention of the wrong sort of person - you can see the jealousy and lust in their eyes when I take him for a walk!

Re: The great escape and bank job!
I often see staffies tied up outside shops in Buckingham. Not sure I would risk it myself, but they don't seem to come to any harm.
Re: The great escape and bank job!
I don't think I would risk leaving Rocky tied up anywhere, you just never know who is about to walk by, so many scenarios, must not think about it too much. At least she had the good sense to go and find you. Very intellegent breed the Staffy.

I see dogs tied up outside shops all the time too, and for every 10 people that walk past them about 1 will actually pay any attention to it ... you tie a staffy up and leave it, and I can guarentee everyone will notice !! and everyone will have an opinion on it !!
It only takes a passer by's dog to have a go at your tethered staffy, and it will always be your dogs fault ... cus thats what the majority of people still seem to believe

Re: The great escape and bank job!
crafty girl chewing her lead to come get you. if it was lemmy he would have been up the leg of the nearest person for some attention and promptly licking everyone to death he wouldnt have give me a second thought once he was free.
it must be great living in your area if it were here in leeds some chav would have pinched my dog.

I think it is great story any way. At least she came to you and didnt run off. I often leave Tyson outside the superette or greengrocer but this is at our local high street and I do ask security to keep an eye. There is a security man at just about every shop - just a South African thing. Tyson has been shopping with me here since he was 12 weeks (then I took him iside with me as he was far too cute and would have been nicked for sure). Everyone knows us and he gets treats from the Spar manager every time.

Awww how clever to come and find you I'd be scared to leave Zac outside in case someone took him, he is that daft he would go with anyone for a cuddle and fuss x

Re: The great escape and bank job!
thats so greath that she came in, what a gorgeous story.
I guess it's different here but I will leave Russell tied up out the front of a store, though usually I put him somewhere he'll be able to see me and I can see him. mainly because I don't want him to get upset and think I've left him for good!

Re: The great escape and bank job!
Round here its not too bad as the police for some reason are very vigilante about dogs. Plus there seems to be a lot of them in out area (Staffys). I do know that there was a spate of dog fighting, which was stopped and the relevant people were jailed and were not allowed to own animals ever again. That may be why the police keep an eye out.
She was a bit of a nightmare when I walked her up the high st as it took so long as she wanted licks, kisses and cuddles of everyone!
