Puppy good with hands but not face.
So I've had toby for nearly a week now (just over 9 weeks old) and he has started getting good with avoiding biting hands when moderately excited (tugs on clothes still but not too worried so early on). He has a bit of a problem with biting at my face though, most of the time it is jumping up with his mouth open and head swinging about.
I'd like to be able to sit down and play with him without running the risk of him jumping up in my face and giving me a quick nip.
Does anyone have any suggestions to help inhibit his urge to nip at the face? Should I just keep up with the "ouch!"/ignore method i have been using with my arms/hands/legs?
Sorry if this post sounds stupid

No it's not stupid. You need to ignore him and say no really loud and he will eventually get the idea. Billy used to wait for someone to walk around and go afer there feet, toes, trousers anything that moved

As above, with a firm no he will get the message, just training really, he is such a baby still and you've only had him a week give it time Xx

Same, really. Just keep up with the "No!" and ignoring. If he snaps at any part of you, you must remember to stop playing/interracting with him immediately, or he won't get the message.

Agree with all. Also if you are on the ground with him he thinks it is play time and that is how they play.

when ours jump up we give them a gentle push away and tell them NO or OFF depending on the situation. Jumping on me is OFF at me is NO. the thing is i have come to realise that when puppies and dogs play they mouth each other so what to some poeple is taken as the wrong behaviour is actualy quite normal to them. poor dogs need to be bilingual really they need to be able to communicate doggy language and human language. you will get there though just keep it all constant
