Staffie with bone cancer
Hi, am new to this site but felt I had to share my story. We bought our staffie, Lady, in 2007 - she was nearly 2 years old. Had to have her spayed as the previous owner had not had this done. From her records we found she had given birth to 9 puppies when she was 15 months old. One of these did not survive. Anyway, Lady was a superb pet & full of energy. She ate well, too well at times. We live in a pub so she loved seeing who was in & has the most placid nature. In 2011 I decided to take her for her jabs, no problem. Then in the summer she started limping, on & off. Again atrip to the vets. He couldn't be sure without costly x-rays. We put it off and she started taking metacam. In October we went away for a week in the sun & left Lady with a friend, he had no problems with her. Upon our return I felt a lump on her side so we took her to the vets. He urged us to have the x-rays & a biopsy but started antibiotics in case of an infection. We raised the £770 for the procedure and she had it. Recovery was awfull, it took a week for her to get back to being something like herself but nothing prepared me for the vet telling me it was bone cancer & he could do no more than refer us to a specialist. The lump is pressing on her lung so makes her breathing a bit eratic. We can't afford to send her for further treatment but I feel it would be unfair to put her through it too. She's living on borrowed time, but the Metacam is helping ease the pain. She still goes out for a walk once a day & eats something most days. We hope & pray we can get past Christmas as the family love her. We will definately get another staffie. Fi

Hello and a warm welcome to the forum.
My heart goes out to you and all I can say is that I echo what Janey has said - we're here if you need to talk, or even have a rant & rave.
We'd love to see some pics of Lady if you feel able to post them

Hello and welcome from me, Millie and Bella.
So sorry to hear you are going through this. I had a very similar situation with our cat Barnaby 10 years ago. I kept her with me as long as I could ,maybe too long. Letting her go was so hard but I had to think what was best for her. Like everyone has said people are here to talk and listen and we would love to see some pics of Lady.

That is a very difficult decision. I hope you make your time as special as possible. I had the chance to have one last week with my last dog and I made sure it was his best week ever (as good as it could be anyway). It was hard, but I will cherish it forever. Really helped the whole family deal with it. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Thank you
Thank you for all your kind words. We know we have to let her go and are preparing ourselves for this. We love her so much we've not taken into consideration the effect it's having on her. She's not eaten today and has found it hard to drink too. She just sleeps all the time. We know we have to say goodbye.
Thanks again.

So very sorry to read this. I have been in the same position you are in now and know exactly how it feels. Can only say that you will know when the time is right to say goodbye to your lovely Lady (I had a Lady too).
Will be thinking of you.
