How often do u bath your staffy ?

Dempsey gets bathed before a show or when he's really stinky (quite often), but I keep it to a minimum for 2 reasons; Bull Terriers have sensitive skin & if you bathe them too often you can irritate it, and Dempsey thinks the bath is the gateway to hell, and he WON'T go in voluntarily. It's a fight every time!

when he was a pup memphis needed bathing weekly but now he toilet trained im doing it about 4-6 weeks or when he goes rolling in others toileting mainly cows haha

In the summer i bath mine every two weeks but in the winter every 6 weeks give or take in the summer their down my allotments every day and its dusty so they have a hose down but not shampoo bathed

Only when she goes in the river and stinks!

i give Katie a bath every month. but she never too keen on the idea

Only had Blue 2 months and I have given him 1 outside when it was hotter after I washed my car and 1 inside in the bath. He loved both...I was shocked cos normally when we have finished washing a dog we run and hide in a bedroom while they shake water everywhere on the landing.
Blue just stayed in the bath and let me dry him completly

and it best to get them used to getting bathed.

tip not a good idea to take a 12week old pup in the shower with you iv still got the claw scares to prove it haha

Ha ha thanks for that She has got her last Vac on Thursday so I will bath her at weekend all ready for when we can take her out cannot wait. All though we got a shock tonight they sent her papers to the wrong address so we only got them today, i thought she was 12 weeks old on sat but she is only 10.

Not a problem, but be gentle & try to make it fun. Only use a special mild puppy shampoo & make sure you rinse thoroughly. I also use a gentle spray on coat conditioner just to make sure his skin doesn't get too dry.

witch is about evey month or two... depends on the weather and wot kind of mess they get in when we are out...

I only bath mine when they need it as they have natural oils in the coat that keep them warm and with our weather well !!!!!!

when my 2 were puppys i washed them in the sink... bath can be a big place when you are so littile...

but even now they are not keen on bath time.... one at a time now and not in the sink....lol

and talking about baths i think ill do mines tonight as they are starting to kick up a bit of a smell

Cairo has a bath when shes gets stinky.But i only bath her in the winter,if she is very muddy from a walk.

just something i heard today from a friend who has staffys regarding grooming and bathing, there is little to do in this respect. the average staffy, even the one with a white coat like my katie usaully looks spotless, if it is very clean breed, physically and mentally, but obviously an owner should give his dog daily attention and this with a hound glove or a semi hard brush, polishing over with a soft chamois leather. however, good coats come mainly from good feeding, do not bathe your dog too often. once a year is usually enough for a house dog,(i was surprised when i heard this as i bathe Katie every month) although a kennel dog sleeping on straw or other organic material may need more regular attention, of course if your dogs roll in some other material eg, feces's he will need a bath, but baths should only be given on warm days or in a place free from draughts. a through drying down should be given, especially underneath the dog and around the genitals,(that wasn't the way it was explained to me but this a family site so i used the word genitals) and never bathe small puppies, as little one may not like this may well be put back by such treatment and will fear being bathed when they are hardier.

Once a year?! Seriously? Oops. I used to bath mine AT LEAST once a month cos he always used to get filthy in the park. Mud all over his legs and belly, I was constantly fighting a losing battle to keep him clean for at least a couple days!

i know i was told only to wash em once a year i couldnt believe it either, but if they get dirty in the park from mud and its just on his legs and belly you can rub him down with a damp cloth, but only give them a wash if hes really smelly after rolling around in s..t

its all to do with keeping the natural oils in their coat,

I'm so excited! It looks like he's completely clear of the infection and the breeder says he's a healthy happy puppy. I cant wait to get him home and show him off on here! The only thing is, the breeder's little boy wants me to keep the name he gave him - dragon. They initially called him that cos he was so big, and now they say its apt cos he's got the heart of a dragon. I just cant imagine having a staffy called dragon!

thats great news, dragon seems a bit of a funny name for a dog ok, just call him charlie thats more proper, or call him Richard after Richard the lion heart, Ritchie for short

Not too sure about Dragon. Charlie's sweet, though. I think it'll be hard for you to change that now, what with everything that's happened.

i think charlies dragon got a nice ring to it then its suitable all round

i dont think its wise to bath dogs too often ,mine generally get bathed if they get muddy/and or roll in something awful ,which is why my bitch has had 2 baths in about 2 weeks loll

Dempsey hates water, won't walk through a puddle! However, he has no rpoblems with mud - the more stagnant the better!

Kaos has been bathed 2 times so far the first and second time was when he pooed and was sick in his crate on the way to the vets and rolled in it and the 3rd time was last weekend when him and ty were absolutley disgusting after playing in the worlds most boggiest field ever! Ty hates water and will walk around the tinyest bit of surface water on the road but is fine in the bath which is weird ive only bathed him twice once being last weekend x

ha ha memphis trys to jump in the bath with the kids its a job keepin him out lol

I bath kaiser about every 3 or 4 weeks sometiomes more depending if he has been chasing his ball and gets dead muddy he doesnt like it but the funny thing now is if we turn the shower on for ourselves he thinks its for him jumps in and gives us the sad eyes im like its not for u silly get out they are funny

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

My boy is almost six and he's never had a bath, shower or wash. If he gets very dirty I let him dry and brush him off. Washing your dog too often destroys the natural oils in the skin and causes irritation, itching and a dull coat.

Yes Misty has never had a bath either. In the summer she loves playing with the hose but that's it.
