Plastic bottle and stones!!
Does anybody or has anybody used a bottle or can filled with stones to "shake" as a method of preventing behaviour like jumping up.
I have used it with Tia this evening as pushing her down when she jumps up just wasn't working and she wont jump up at all now.
Just wondered what Opinions were?
cheers

Not cruel at all. Try not too use it too much or she will get used to it.

Re: Plastic bottle and stones!!
i only use the bottle for the big things in their behaviour that i want to correct like getting too boistrous with each other or barking too much at other people or dogs. telling a dog OFF and pushing them away repeatedly they eventualy get the message not to jump up.

Re: Plastic bottle and stones!!
I have used this method in the past with other breeds but did stop when I began to question the reaction I got from the dogs. Yes they would stop doing what they were doing but it was more out of fear of the noise than the fact they realised it was a wrong thing to do. With most dogs the reaction is one of fear and the body language they display when you do it is a flight reaction (ears back, tail down and running in opposite direction). As much as it stops the behaviours I think frightening the dog to do so can't be positive, also puts them in a different frame of mind which isn't useful for training. Some dogs pay little attention to the bottle&stones though and it works for them! I don't think its cruel just not really a method I would use myself now.
