Blue/white staff behaviour problems
Hi all don't know if you can remember Sumo, havnt been on here for awhile, now he's 6 months and a very big boy! he's been well socialised from a young age with other dogs, and is a very good family dog. but recently been been showing slight aggression towards other dogs especially male. the snarling and going on.. he's also been vets and has like teenage spots on his belly. anyone advise anything or been through something similar? thanks a lot josh n bec

Rash or actual bumps? Rash is pretty common and could be a reaction to something in his environment or even food. Aggression needs to be dealt with by a strong leave it command and a doggie time out. Do not assume it will go away. You are entering that phase where he will test you on everything. Keep at the basics and watch for the slightest sign of aggressive/warning behavior (tail position, staring, freezing, ect.). If you stay consistent and alert, you can keep on top of things.

no, actual spots, the vets said its like teenage spots. hormones etc. yeah he gets a big NO! when he does it but he's used to running off the lead and he was well behaved but now we don't want to chance it. just incase and owners are wary of him atm. not the best impression when he grows at another dog, another satistic is what i don't want!!

its other dogs were he will switch. i don't want a dog where he has to be on the lead the whole time. he's a good family dog. maybe getting him snipped?

Re: Blue/white staff behaviour problems
that dont really fix the problem, you may have to keep him on the lead all the time some dog just dont like other.
you need to try to fix you need to find out what set him off the stop before he shock out.

Re: Blue/white staff behaviour problems
I sometimes keep mine on a long flex line if there are dogs there that are instigators. Is yours starting it or reacting? Ther are sometimes only small signals. It also is common for dogs Sumo's age to try to act tough for social position. Try rewarding him with a treat when he ignores another dogs dominance.
I was just going to post that link Steve! Lol

Re: Blue/white staff behaviour problems
Agree with above. You will have to learn body language and stop a problem before it starts. Flex leads let him have some freedom and also let you reaasert control if you see a problem start to happen. They will not get along with every dog so don't worry.

My puppy was the same, she got a little calmer after i got her snipped but she is still not trustworthy off the lead unless there are NO dogs i.e. the beach on a monday morning lol
