Muddy puppies
Sapphire went out on her first walkies today She loved it but she got really muddy. We didn't want to bath her because she hates the bath and we didn't want to associate walkies which she enjoyes with baths which she hates. So we used baby wipes to clean her up a little. Are baby wipes ok for her? we didn't think about the mud and would have bought some doggy wipes but the only thing available to us were Pampers baby wipes.
Also Sapphire is completely zonked out now lol. We only walked about a mile but her problems with the lead and harness were soon forgotten whe she realised she could actually walk on her own legs when we go outside the front door

Re: Muddy puppies
She's zonked!! Has been since we got back at about 1:30...She got up had a tired little stroll around the house and garden, did her thing then went back to kip lol...We're a bit worried about tonight now though, she might be up all night, so we might take her just for a quick little 15 min walk before bed.
I only managed to take one picture because i was trying to avoid slipping onto my backside in the mud lol, but i will definately take more when we take her out tomorrow

Re: Muddy puppies
She also met 2 Golden Retrievers today too. She just pounced on one of them playing with her, and the size of that dog compared to Sapphire was quite scary for me, but she loved it even the other dog loved it too...The owner didn;t seem too pleased though because she had them on leads and the size of them means a lot of puling when playing lol.
Our vets does a free meet and greet for puppies so we are putting her name on the list so she can go socialise

Re: Muddy puppies
Aww. Just be carefull you don't overdo it, for there first walks a 10-20 min walk is enough, even though you think, and they appear to want to go on and on! Also with bouncing on dogs on lead, they tend to be on lead for some sort of reason and a pup jumping all over them could end up in an accident. Mine is off lead and had a snarl at a pup yesterday because it wouldn't leave her alone, 5 mins was enough then she wants to go off.
The meet and greet sounds like an ace idea for a boisterous pups though, and more pics needed

Re: Muddy puppies
The walk lasted about 30-45 minutes but most of it was spent sniffing trees, lamposts, grass, bins, trees, bushes etc every few centimeters lol.
The meeting of the dogs lasted about a minute, we did try to calm her down and stop her but it wasn't working so we kept on moving. I'm hoping the meet and greet calms her down when meeting new dogs so it won't be so manic when she's out and about. But she did brilliant for her first walkies...im a proud proud mummy

Re: Muddy puppies
As you should be and it's the next stage on training now, which is even more so rewarding
Lots of recall practice, do it in the garden and practice more when out. Next chapter Xx

Re: Muddy puppies
First walks are always fun. Carefull to not overdo it. They love exercise but they are still growing and their joints are fully devolped yet. If you overdo it when they are young they can get arthritis or other injuries.
Baby wipes are fine to use. We use a wash cloth and a warm bucket of water to do a wipedown when we don't want to give her a bath.
