ok here's one for you!
how many of you have cooked a nice dinner ie stew, sheperd's pie or a roast and have had some left over and gave it to you dog,is it wrong to every now and again to give it to them, seem's a shame to threw it away when your doggie's looking at you with them puppy dog eyes knowing that they would love it!

Human food is not that great for your dog but come on.......its not gonna kill them every once in a while to have a bit of leftovers! Mine certainly have some every so often!

ah thats what i thought, just when you look at some of the rubbish dog foods out there with all the additives in them.least if you have cooked it you know you have put veg and proper meat in it.

Re: ok here's one for you!
i give the dogs yorkshire pudding and chicken on a sunday they love it. lemmy also likes mince. we were told by a vet when we had out GSD to give him chicken and pasta and rice and fish when he had an upset stomach (which was quite a lot cos they are rone to it) the neighbours thought they were being nice giving him the odd titbit so i had to go round them explaining they were costing me a fortune. poor pete lived on beabs on toast while the dog had the decent meal

Moo has whatever I don't eat but I also mix it in with her food when she hasn't finished her dinner. She never gets much, just enough that it makes her finish her own food

Re: ok here's one for you!
We generally give ours a little leftover vegies, rice or pasta mixed with their normal food once or twice a week. Oh and I don't eat my crusts that often, so they get a little bit of that once a week or a bit of apple when I'm having one. I sometimes wonder if I should, but considering Kita is nearly 15 yrs old and has been a very healthy dog I have done the same with Izzy.
I think mine have stronger stomachs than I do

Funny you would write that..my 2 boys both had some left over casserole tonight that we had for tea yesterday! It had carrots, spuds, peas etc in it and they loved it! I think that every now and then, surely it can't do any harm for them to eat "our" food. They both even had a few spoonfulls of baked beans too!! Oh Oh !!!!!

It's not good to give them human food every day because it can make them fat, but every once in a while it's an ok snack/treat.

Sometimes I give a scrap here and there, but I really try not to overindulge. Mine gets a pretty solid diet as it is and he loves his own food as much as mine.

Re: ok here's one for you!
If I'm home on my day off and my two have had a few little "extras", whoever is feeding the dogs that night is advised to "cut back" on their dinner or if I miss this coz I'm at work, my poor babes have less the next day.
I already know I'm referred to as Sargent Major from the rest of the household when it comes to healthy eating, so one more disgruntled cadet is not a problem for me

I leave Harry a little bit of my meat or fish from every meal and if I eat out I always carry a little plastic bag and bring him home some. He searches my handbag for it when I come in

Re: ok here's one for you!
I have always scraped leftovers in to the bowl with all the dogs we have kept since I was a kid. However, Dude is on a raw diet and turns his nose up to a lot of left over foods put down for him.

Oh dear, I think I'm the only one that won't feed leftovers to my dog!
He doesn't need them, and it mucks up the amounts I give him, I lose track! He puts weight on so easily that I daren't add anything to his diet!

Re: ok here's one for you!
We don't give Vlad left-overs, but his new diet is: an adult Kong filled with food and an organic bone biscuit for breakfast, raw kangaroo mince for lunch and scrambled eggs for dinner. I can't remember who suggested the scrambled eggs on here, but he loves them... we used to give them for breakfast, but as he will be moving to 2 meals a day in a month and a half we moved the eggs t dinner... no problems, but his farts stink the house out now LOL. As a treat we give him a chew stick in the morning made of kangaroo. He loves them! He takes it straight outside and into his kennel!

Re: ok here's one for you!
Jess loves leftovers! I do have to stop them from time to time though cause she puts the weight on easily! She loves pasta or rice so we save her some and put it in her bowl with her dinner when we do it! Also she is addicted to wine gums only gets the odd one but if she sees you put a pack in a draw she'll sit there looking at the draw and won't move for about an hour!

Re: ok here's one for you!
My dog (and previous dogs and my cats) always have the left overs. I never throw away food its such a waste. I feed twice a day anyway so the second feed is leftovers or if there is none normal dog food. Im irish so basically every dinner is meat and seasonal veg anyways.
