Miniature GSDs!
On Dempsey's walk today we came across the tiniest little GSD bitch I have ever seen. She was only about an inch or so taller than Dempsey!
It turns out that she's 3 years old & the guy got her from a breeder in the W. Midlands (wouldn't say where cause he says there have been a lot of threats made to this breeder by other 'standard GSD breeders & would be muppet owners'). He says that the breeder is trying to create a new breed, ie Miniature German Shepherd Dog, and wants him to breed his bitch back to her grandfather to carry on the line.
She's fully KC registered (obviously as a GSD) and he reckons that he'll 'make a mint' from the sale of the pups - the woman he got her from already has homes lined up for some 'good miniatures'!
WTF??????

But it isn't the kennel club that is sanctioning these things. After all, the dog could never be entered in a show as a GSD, it would get absolutely nowhere!
It's irresponsible breeders (and don't we bull breed owners know all about that!) that are messing with the dogs' health!
I found this on the net....
In the German Shepherd Dog, however, there is a little-known dwarfism that yields a nearly perfectly proportioned but considerably downsized version. An acceptable term to use would be proportional or pituitary dwarfs, even though all types of dwarfism have their origins in that gland. The fact is (or was until this article appeared), many do not know about the existence of this type of dog, even though it is not all that rare.
