Anyone else a pigeon fancier ?
I`m still wet behind the ears regarding doo's however i do have a somewhat small loft 13x5 three sections i only have two stock birds at present and 11 bird young team all the birds were given to me when my local pigeon club put the word out and people were offering me birds left right and centre
i dout i`l be racing untill next year at the verry least birds are training from 10miles as much as i possibly can but as i dont drive its hard they do however loft fly everyday and trap 99% of the time without problems not bad considering they were raised in another loft! i recently built a 5x5 section it needs some more finishing touches before i migrate the young team over and start work on raising there numbers there's space for 23 in the new section here are some pics next dry day i`l take camera out and get some close up pics for you!
i know some people think of pigeons as flying rat but honestly if you spend some time with homing pigeons you notice they have there little own charaters il get a vid of my loft security pigeon he's a fighter and will bite and wing slap if you so much as look as his box lol

Re: Anyone else a pigeon fancier ?
A few months ago i had 20 birds but on a training flight i lost 10 birds!!
i was devastated i lost alot more but over two days some made there way home we think they were attacked on return to loft and the pack broke up and went there own way! + we have a massive feral population they could have also joined up with them after the attack?? who knows but the 11 who made it back have learnt to stay in a group

No, it's the feral pigeons that are the flying rats! We get a lot of homing pigeons flying over us (you can always tell cause they're in a group!) and occasionally one or two will land in our garden & have a drink out the pond. They're actually far sleeker than ferals & much more attractive.

That is really neat! We love the birds at my house. We have a small bird sanctuary and 4 doves have made it their permanent home. It would be hard to lose some like you have! Hope they just joined another group and nothing more sinister happened.

Homers are often targetted by birds of prey, unfortunately. Plus, there are some 'humans' who like to take pot shots at them.

I have to admit i dont life ferals purely as i found my young birds trying to follow them while on training a few times + they harbour all sorts of pests that would be bad for me doo's

Re: Anyone else a pigeon fancier ?
Id love to be into them, i love birds. But for some reason pigeons scare me. I don't hate them, i think theyre cool and i don't mind my budgies flapping about my head and ive had parrots fly to my head but if a pigeon comes near me i start doing kung fu lol

when i used to work at Marineland as a younger man there was a pigeon that lived in a bird box by the donko room., at random times it would land on your shoulder an hang out for a while.. it was white and looked like a dove .. maybe it was ... any way it was so sweet.
