Demodex?
I wrote on here a couple of months ago in regards to my puppy getting bald patches. We took her to the vets a couple of days later and they told us it's nothing at all to worry about.
In my opinion it's got a LOT worse and with her being black it's really noticable. After doing a little digging around, I've seen that a few people on here have had dogs which have had demodex and wondered if anyone could take a look at these pics and see if it's similar. I really don't believe what the vet said that it's "nothing to worry about" as it is definately getting worse.
Sorry for the quality, they were taken on the phone!

Re: Demodex?
It's in an unusual position for demodex, which usually starts around the head and base of tail. However, that doesn't mean it's definitely not!
Is your vet the only one near you? How about trying to get a 2nd opinion?

Re: Demodex?
It did start at the base of her tail, yet seemed to clear up there. It's now getting quite bad under her arm (leg) pit, the photo's don't show the extent of it really, but I've asked Santa for a Nikon this year lol
I'm going to try get her in again tomorrow and if I get the same reply, I think it may be time to change! x

Re: Demodex?
Max had the dreaded Demodex (it started on his head and spread through his body. This is what he looked like ...
Thankfully the our vet was quick to act and gave me the lotion to get him better. It's a long, stinky process but who cares when it gets them well again. He felt better in himself when the mites had gone too.
Hope your vet (or the next one) diagnoses her soon

Re: Demodex?
We've tried the antibacterial route, with spray and shampoo to no avail! Thinking of trying that advocate next (vet depending!) It does look quite a bit like what your poor Max had, not that you can tell from my crappy pics lol but thanks, I'm sure we'll get there... EVENTUALLY!

Re: Demodex?
Sophie had demodex. She was treated with ProMeris Duo. whilst it was really effective it made Sophie really poorly. She would shake and dribble then go really sleepy and be really out of sorts until the next day.
She had four treatments in all and when we realised each time her reaction was worse we decided to ask the vet for an alternative. Lucikly, after the fourth treatment she didn't need anything else.
We have made the decision to keep her on a monthly Advocate treatment for the rest of her life if necessary as the vet said she might be vulnerable to skin problems.
Since her treatment she has always had a beautiful glossy coat that is perfect.
She is terrified of disposable rubber gloves though
BTW, her skin looked EXACTLY the same as sbtmax.

Re: Demodex?
My Zaya Had it when younger.
It started on her head and on her paws.
Later started moving into her arm pits......luckily our vet gave us an oral medication which made her better within 3 weeks we havent seen it come back since....=) they say it has to do with a poorly developed immune system in puppies.

My Meg suffers with this, every March/April,It starts as a little patch on her head then she loses all her fur on her ears and muzzle, we treat with Advocate and a month or so later her fur starts to grow back.

Re: Demodex?
It IS demodex! Ah well, with an arm full of antibiotics, advocate and a chewy hedgehog she should be ok within a couple of months! Feeling a little light (after the £75 fee!) but happy it's diagnosed and getting treated
Thanks for the input everyone!

Re: Demodex?
At last, a diagnosis!
At least you now know the proper way forward - let's hope the treatment gives speedy relief!
