When to hold off on tug games.
Dude is around 4 months now, and he loves playing tug. He should start teething and getting his new teeth shortly, so I was wondering if I need to stop playing tug in case his milk teeth come out too soon?

WE never stopped. I did refrain from pulling back and simply held the rope.

1 of Summers baby teeth came out yesterday and another is a bit wobbley, nearly had a fit, overprotective mommy again, so I have stopped playing tug with her at the moment, doesn't help that she likes playing tug with my slippers, when they are still attatched to my feet! lol

We never stopped either as long it's not rough then helps to loosen the baby teeth and they come out easier

There's no need to stop playing tug. Maybe go a little easier and just hold the toy without pulling back, but let's face it, pups will chew & pull on anything to get rid of their puppy teeth, so a tug toy won't do any damage!

As long as the puppy is up for it there's nothing to worry about. I noticed Gummi was a bit more careful a few times while teething but that's it, we still used it both "just" for fun and as a reward when training.

i never stopped either, i have to agree with abouve, when mouse had a wobbly tooth she would be more carefull n wouldnt tug herself.

Thanks guys, that's good news. Dudes always asking for a game of tug and it would be a shame to have to knock it on the head.

The tug games is all DNA and they'll wanna play all day . When Jack was about 4 months we too played tug with him but we let him win easily just to br cautious with his puppy teeth.
