the common cold

has anyone else heard that dogs can catch the common cold. when my kids were little and they had a cold our dog used to show similar symptoms. i took him to the vets one day and he asked if i had kids and how they were. when i told him they had a cold he said the dog had caught it as well. i didnt know that

I don't think its the same sort of cold as humans get.

the symptoms arent that far off though couldnt beleive a dog could get a cold. imagine what our wee ones would be like in the wild. no one to wrap them up and pamper them they wouldnt stand a chance LOL

They can't catch a cold. Maybe the dog had a chill, but it certainly wouldn't be a cold!

ive heard of them catching a chill but never a cold :S lol ... i know ferrets can get human colds etc.

I don't think they can catch a cold because the bacteria causing the illness in humans doesn't affect dogs. It could be more of a sympahty sickness since your dog senses you are ill they exhibit symptoms as well.
