Losing Balance

Post by Rebecca on Wed 31 Aug 2011 - 12:43

I'm a little concerned or is this normal???
When Cali gets excited he sometimes loses his legs it is like he is drunk and it takes him a few seconds to get up. this doesn't happen all the time only occasionally. Could he have a medical problem, I read something on the internet about liver deficiency in Staffys, I know self diagnosis is never good and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I see you have laminate flooring in your pik .. that could be one reason, my two slip and slide on laminate and wood flooring because they cant grip on to it.
puppys usually are clumbsy and i noticed w/most because theyre paws are usually growing bigger and faster than there bodys lol, so they trip over them.

Other than that im not sure, but i bet someone will be along shortly to add

If it happens when he is excited it could be something neurological, dont want to scare you it could be absolutely nothing but if your are concerned I would take him to a vets for a check up. Does it only happen when hes excited? Does he tremble or shake? The best thing you can do if you are taking him to the vets is take a video on your phone of him doing it. Also take note of his routine for a whole day and exactly what he has done/eaten. This way you will be prepared for the vets and you wont have to come back for another initial consultation they should be able to get right down to a diagnoses.

Hey guys! It only happens occasionally, never when we are playing ball in the house (we have a long hall) he doesn't tremble or shake, He just falls over and waves his legs around like he has completely lost coordination. This has happened about 5 times in the 3 months that we have had him.
So I think it is time for a little check up.
Thanks for replying.

Cali went to the vets a couple of days ago, the good news is he is a healthy boy, but his little drunken episodes need to be watched, it might be nothing, it might be epilepsy which he could grow out of, but at the moment the vet doesn't think we should worry.
Ill just have to keep my phone with me and try to video him if it happens again.
Thanks again for your support.
