Microchip Empty Microchip

Post by maria0077 Wed Aug 03 2011, 16:45

Hi,
could somebody possibly let me know hie/her experience with microchipping?
They say the chip is as big (as small) as a rice but I don't know - isn't it unomfortable/painful for a dog (especially a puppy) to have it under the skin?
The vet suggested to have Stella microchipped next week with the 2nd vaccination at 10 weeks.
I of course appreciate the fact that then she would be found more easily if anything happened (I hope nothing like this will ever happen!!!) but I have my phone number and address in a small tube on her harness (prepared once she can go out) so I though it may be enough...?
Thanks!
Best wishes
Marie

every pup is differant .. usually the vet will distract the pup with treats, while they munch away the lift the fatty skin at the back of the neck insert it rub it and all is done .. they may feel a sharp scratch etc but nothing major.
vinnie never noticed anything he was to busy eating his treats the nice vet man gave him haha.

An ID tag is a great way to id your dog but easily removed if it was ever to fall of or she was *god forbid* taken from you .. a microchip is inserted for life etc, its 100% worth the £20(is)

All of our dogs have always been micro chipped, if they get lost or stolen it is an easy thing to remove a collar and one of our dogs has lost a couple of those tube things as they can uncrew and fall apart when the dogs are moving.
Only one of our dogs ever made a fuss but Skye used to scream at all of his vaccinations, none of our others has ever made a fuss.

Polly was chipped at 7 weeks and never made a fuss at all Microchip 779277

You do sometimes read about animals that have been lost or stollen being taken to a vet for treatment years later and being able to be returned to the original owner because of the infomation on the chip.

When I took Violet for her first set of vaccinations, the vet said she would get her microchip with her second set (I took a package deal to get everything done), but it was a different vet for her second set, and she didn't want to put a chip in until Violet was about 6 months, preferably when she was getting neutered &under anaesthetic. It's hard to know what to do when the vets have different opinions in the same surgery Sad

Blue is scheduled for his chip with his next round of shots on the 11th.I think its a great thing and it is worth the money to protect him for his lifetime.

Milo made a bit of a fuss over his, but thats because our vet hurt him doing it. She actually made him bleed, for a few minutes. But my previous dog that we had, never bothered about getting his done.

Think we will get Rex chipped when we schedule him in to be neutered as he has not been done yet. He has just got his first ever name tag since we got him, previous owner never even had him a collar or anything half the time.

Do it.

Last november a guy who lives near to me lost his old girl staff on fireworks night. She just took fright & bolted.

He was distraught as she's about 14 years old & she ran off over some common land in the dark - he thought he'd never see her again. But a kind lady took her in & phoned the local rescue centre who scanned her. By mid morning of the next day she was back with her owner.

It's something all of us hope will never happen, but if it does, at least you know you've a chance of getting your dog back. Also, if it's stolen, the police can scan the dog & it's proof of ownership.

It is worth getting it done, Bruno wasn't too bad.

I would get it done as i have already experience a cat getting stole and he wasn't microchipped, but OH brought me a new kitten and she is 2 now and she is microchipped, Bruno is microchipped and has a bone tag on his collar but that could fall off or someone could just take his collar off, so that's another reason to get the microchip done Big Grin

I had my last dog micro chipped at an RSPCA fun raiser day. They just did it on the spot, and my doggie didn't even flinch. ( I did though !! Laughing )

Winston will also be getting microchipped but I will get him done when I get him desexed.

Had my pup Diesel chipped on her 2nd vaccinations. She yelped like crazy and bled for about 10mins....I was covered in her blood the poor thing.

All the vet said was 'we appear to have hit a blood vessel' .... lot of pressure on it and 3 treats later it stopped and she was fine.

Defo worth it though.

Sophie was done when she had her 2nd vaccination and it was free, a special offer at the time. She didn't complain even though the first one fell out.
