anyone elses dog do this?

Vinnie eats grass like its a rare item lol, like its going outta fashion, we try and stop him as much as we can but stubborn!! .. Anyway i have noticed if he eats a certain amount he ends up doing the cough hurl thing like they are trying to clear there throat .. anybody elses do this? .. he just did it aswell when he found his way into where the rabbits cage is and ate some damn hay!! lol, is it that his got it stuck in his throat on the way down etc?.

Mine eat grass alot. I was told a long time ago it settles their stomachs but Oli eats so much he pukes... So whats the point.

I have the same problem with both of mine (little lad calls em cow dogs!)

When we took them for a walk in fields yesterday henry was eating the heads off the barley liked he'd never eaten in his life before, made him cough all night!!

i heard somewhere that they supposedly eat grass to sooth an upset tummy?! but that cant be right with the amount my 2 eat.

grass is something that dogs eat for there stomachs ive been told there is to different types one to help the stomach and anther that is like a wheat supplement for there diets and mine dose the chough thing aswell i dont no how true the grass thing is but thats what ive been told

Very commen, I think it would be uncommen if they didn't, Moo turns into a cow eating the grass, it's when you get a grassy bum thats not nice

Our dogs do that too I think they are cleaning their stomach... Our dogs eat only couple kind of grass so i think they know what they are doing.

It's a different thing if dogs guzzle the grass like mad...

Charlie eats grass too. Caryll has said that it can become a problem if they eat too much (but what is too much?) as it can lead to bloat and that can be deadly if not treated straight away.

Harvey eats grass some days ALOT more then others but as long as it's not obsessively eating then i wouldn't worry.

i knew dogs ate grass some more than others etc, i was just wondering about the coughing afterwards was my worry wanted to make sure it wasnt just vin.

If it becomes obsessive then yes, it can lead to awful problems. Because a dog can't digest grass, it collects in the stomach & then begins to ferment, letting off gas. The stomach can't get rid of this gas & so it 'bloats'. This in itself is dangerous, but even worse is if the stomach then twists (torsion) - this can pinch the main artery to the stomach & can lead to death very quickly!

Dempsey was lucky, his stomach didn't twist, but he still had to have stomach surgery to remove the grass.

We have today cut off the grass in our garden and fenced it off untill
1 the grass is cut .. 2 a nice day so the grass isnt drenced (Snails-slugs) .. 3 the holes in the garden are fixed etc.
so now they have the bottom of the garden which is concrete and a small area of grass (obv easier to maintain a small square of grass).
