Hi i would like some advice on training if someone could help please . I am happy with most of Bensons the only problem we have got is when we take him out hes fine apart from when he sees another dog it doesnt matter how far away it is Benson starts pulling wanting to go and play. We want to try and stop him doing this as we would like to let him off the lead but we are scared if he sees another dog he will be off and we wont be able to get him back. We would be grateful for any advice

Turn round and walk the other way or just make him sit till the other dog passes. if he's never been off the lead he will have loads of pent up energy and excitement off the lead he''ll surprise you, on the lead My Samson jumps at people off the lead he doesn't do it, i think sometimes a lead can give a dog confidence to do things they wouldn't do off a lead

always plenty of praise and rewards i also use a watch me command so as we approach a dog i tell him to watch me and reward him for that

Totally agree there, Moo is bad on lead and pulls and totally different off. How is Bensons recall? Try practising in the garden or just a quiet area. Maybe try a long lead or training lead whilst out and see how you get on that way.

Personally I would give it a go, you'll never know otherwise, at 6 months he probably will run off to see other dogs, to start with, but it's only by training him not too that he will learn not too, and you never know he may not. Xx

do you have a friend with a another dog? before letting him off on field i would see how he is with other dogs..

dont let him become the pack leader you must be when u say sit he sit when you say stop hes stop.

What I did was I'd start to let him off lead only when there were no dogs around, and I'd practise the recall & the stay. Then I'd let him off when there were dogs way in the distance. And gradually allow the dogs to be nearer if you see what I mean.

I can now let Dempsey off the lead withing about 20 yards of another dog & he'll either come back when called, or he'll stay if told to.

Always get to know your dog's 'control distance' before letting him off near other dogs.

Suki is the same way. She feels it is her right to say hello to every dog she sees. If you want a test run try using a long lead. This lets you she how she reacts if not held in close but also lets you get her back if you go to an area where you want control again.
