Meeting

Hi,
We introduced 11 week old Nero to my daughters 3yr old Pomski in our garden yesterday.Having never seen a young Staffy in this situation before I would be grateful for any comments.
Nero was trying to nip the Pomski and there was a fair bit of growling and barking.The Pomski was a lot bigger and would head butt Nero or just run over him.Is this a normal reaction from Nero or is this the start of something more sinister ?.

Nero is being a normal staffy pup As I believe I already said, staffys are very vocal dogs especially in play! If anyone heard Katy playing with her Dad they would think she's killing him.
Just watch them play, if the Pomski has had enough it will tell Nero off!
Puppies aren't aggressive but need to be taught when they've overstepped the other dogs patience.
Katy has a westie pup cousin & she had to grumble & growl at her to get the message across

Absolutely. Staffords are very vocal in play (as are most dogs) and there will be growling, yapping, nipping & pushing/shoving.

Just keep an eye open for either one of them having enough & then step in with 'enough' or whatever word you want to use.

Yes I had to pull Nero clear as the Pomski was getting a little boisterous,but for a first meet and considering the size difference I thought it went ok.

Sorry, I just hate these 'designer dog' crosses with silly hybrid names.

Glad to hear your first introduction went well with the Pomski. Have you met again since?

We find a lot of owners pull their dogs away from my boy because he's so vocal. I've had neighbours pop their heads over the fence when its play time, I've even had an RSPCA card through my door. These staffs have a lot of stories to tell so don't discourage them when being vocal and don't confuse it for aggression. All dogs need to be told off when they cross the line, you kind of need to let the Pomski tell Nero off, but step in if your wary.

We have had Rico the Pomski over today and we just let them get on with it.Nero wouldn’t leave him alone, it all seemed fairly good natured, lots of bearing of teeth and head butting from Rico and lots of biting nipping and growling from Nero but nothing to aggressive.We have asked my daughter to bring Rico over every week so they are going to have to get used to each other.
We have now started walking Nero twice a day for 10 mins and he is really friendly with all the people we meet and really inquisitive with all the dogs.

It will certainly help by keeping them socialising as much as possible, im sure Rico will show Nero the ropes eventually Sounds like he's getting on just fine
