Separation anxiety Empty Separation anxiety

Hello we have had trouble with our neighbors music when we confronted them they told us that they wouldn't stop until Maisie stopped howling when we left. I recorded her this morning and her howling is so upsetting to hear. Any tips on how to stop this? It's heartbreaking

ok so after reading through the forum today I have started the process of asking her to stay in her bed with her kong when I'm in the house after trying to sneak in to the livingroom I just keep moving her back to her bed in the hall I'm going to leave the house and stand outside see what happens

have you tried to make sure she is taken for a good long walk before you leave her, that way she will be tired out and will sleep for a few hours, you could try a thunder jacket on her as that may help her feel secure, how long are you leaving her for? Smile

I think you've already mentioned on thing that might help her, and that's getting another dog. Given you do already have this problem, I'd consider getting an older dog that is ok with being left, who might provide support as well as company. If you get a pup it is more likely to learn the same behaviour.

Other things to try that don't involve going right back to basics include leaving a radio on, making sure that there is something very interesting (a kong's a good idea) and, as Stella says, making sure she's had a good long walk and is tired before you go.

She gets a 1/2hr walk and a kong stuffed with tasty treats. She's left for about 3hrs at most. This morning she was only left for and hour she howled so bad for the first 15 mins i was thinking about a thunder jacket done a lot of research today and going to discuss it with my partner when he gets home. I've tried not being as cuddly with her today and teaching her that her bed is where she chills and she can deal with that as long as I don't leave the house!!! I work full time same with my partner but he works shifts so usually leaves a couple of hours before I get home. It's just so destressing to hear. I'm so sensitive to her lol! Thanks guys

It is upsetting to hear, my neighbour told us about our Flo, we had no idea. The thing that really settled Flo was having access to most of the house (not the bedrooms) while we were out. She ended up laying on the stairs catching the sun.

She also had her treat ball to distract her and an item of clothing belonging to me (which she nicked) but it seemed to help too. Hopefully  Maisie will settle soon enough when she figures out that someone will be home shortly.

Maybe your neighbour should try and help rather than being obnoxious. Does make me wonder why people have to be so negative Rolling Eyes

As long as Maisie is well cared for and in good health you'll have nothing to worry about if your neighbour does waste their time calling them.

Hopefully if she understands you're doing something about Maisie now you know about the problem, she'll reciprocate with being reasonable with her music.

Unfortunately I don't think she's going to work like that. Never mind hopefully won't last too long if the police are called every night!
