Patterdale xstaffy

Hi,brand new to this site and a proud owner of 8 week old Ernest, a patterdale x staffy, I've read various views and opinions on this particular cross but although early days and very much the cute puppy, I have to say he is quite possibly one of the smartest dogs I've come across! Although even at such an early age it's clear to see he has all the trademarks of becoming a proper handful. Any views and comments most welcome. Nick

Especially with this cross, I'd recommend you start putting boundaries in early and make sure you get as much socialisation as you can - puppy classes and that sort of thing. Patterdales can be very challenging dogs, full on terriers who need a lot of exercise and who need their minds occupying. Add the staffy into the mix and you've got a bigger, stronger version. Get it right and you should have a fab dog, but I'd say to be aware (and I think you are) that it's a cross that has the potential to be a headache if it goes wrong.

Welcome. Firstly, Ernest is probably the best name you ever could have given your lovely dog! I'm in love!

I met a pure patterdale pup at the vets a few months back, definitely made staffies look calm and sedate in comparison. She decided to hump my dog's face and then leapt onto the vet's counter to get at the treats Laughing
