Beginner with beginners mind

Hello all my name is Paul.
I have had dogs for 30 yrs of different breeds. Goldens, Labs, Dobermans, shepherds, Dalmatians and some Malinois. I have experience training them for obedience and service work. but only my 1st staffy Iam raising from puppy.
Despite all the training hours I attended in dog training. and years experience as dog trainer. I consider my self an absolute beginner in bulldogs. In fact, I am. and that's an honest assesment of myself. I wanna make sure i got no fantasies of my dog handling abilities. i believe it is most fair for the dog to be honest.-
Because staffys are special, their breeding and purpose is so specific and special, it requires me a total shift in my thinking and approach.
Ive been spending my time reading up and searching topics on this forum and i am very thankful and appreciative that there are some knowledgeable people here and are very generous with advice.
I look forward to learning from you all and to grow and prosper.
I think this staffy has taught me humility and have balanced my attitude about my self, and my skills as a dog handler. i truly believe that with good attitude i have a chance to learn and improve despite my older age.

hia from me and sasha ,zulu is gorgeous ,i think when you have dogs,staffords especially you never stop learning from them!

if you have tamed a mal you will have no poblem with a bully. they are very people orientated and have a strong desire to please.
you will find alot of the same traits but bullies hate to be reprimanded and will often shy away while a mal as you know will just look, learn, shrug its shoulders and get on with it. they are suprisingly sensitive dogs and do well with positive training methods. anything confrontational will lead them to shy away and just give up wanting to work.

If only all owners were as conscientious as you seem to be. I would love to hear your thoughts and discoveries regarding your Staffy.

I would agree on all above. They love feeling that they've done the right thing, and their feelings are often hurt. It's almost as if they have some sort of moral goodness in them sometimes, if that makes sense. They are wonderful companions and intently love people and affection. Also, they are very funny.
