Wondering what my staff is crossed with Empty Wondering what my staff is crossed with

Post by sayer1986 Mon Sep 01 2014, 17:57

Hello, I've got a beautiful 9 nth staffy called Henry, he's soooo friendly and loving esp with my boys but I'm getting a lot of people telling me he's crossed with a pit.
From top of his shoulders to floor he is 19" so quite a big boy for only just 9 months.

Nice looking dog.so hard to tell what dog he's crossed with, maybe lab, American bulldog, or could even be mixed with a few breeds like my pup. Any more pics?

I hope it is lab, in fact that's what I tell people when they ask, then they don't seem so frightened of him, even tho there's more chance of him licking someone to death, than there is him hurting anyone.
he has got a slight wave in his fur at the bottom of his back, is that a lab thing?

It depends who these people are, where they live, and how the word 'pitbull' is used locally. In different countries, the word can mean different things. In the UK, we're familiar with pitbull being associated with a specific breed - which is banned by the (flawed) Dangerous Dogs Act. When people say pitbull here, though there's no accounting for ignorance, they technically do not usually mean staffie.

In the US it's different. Pitbull is a generic term which applies to a range of dogs, the staffie being one of them. This is what wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull) is saying today: ' A "Pit Bull" is one of several breeds including the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, American Bully, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Presa Canario, Cane Corso, or any mix thereof. Any dog that is mixed with a "Bull breed" may also be called a "Pit Bull" including those that are descended from the English Bulldog, French Bulldog, and Boston Terrier'.

Though I dont believe my dog has any pitbull in him in the UK sense (the SSPCA thought he was appropriate for re-homing and that's good enough for me), there is no way that I would ask the question as it could lead into unhelpful territory.

Yeah that's ware Henry's is, I suppose it could explain his extra soppy temperament.

I've just found an excellent post about how to tell if your dog is crossed with a pit, so I'll be getting the tape measure out tomorrow lol.
It says that a staffy x lab can look like a pit type so fingers crossed.
If he is part lab I'm guessing he's going to be rather big? He is growing at a rate of knots.
