rrgh.. well the neighbours have complained loki still isnt sleeping at night, howls all night, ive been leaving him to cry, but two weeks now and still crying....my landlord wasnt overly keen anyway on the dog but agreed, I really dont want to end up being given notice because of it!! I really need a different approach, because the leaving him thing just isnt working.

im not sure what else to do.. Sad

in the day he will stay in his bed for ages and not howl, but at night its a different story.

yeah hes got a clock, hotwater bottle, radio, soft toys, other toys, a blanket of mine. like I said in the day hes brilliant he will stay in there for ages, and not howl or cry, I went out for 10 mins the other day and he was fine!
at night its just completley different.

I mentioned it to the vet, and he suggested if it gets too much to put the bed in our room and see if it makes the difference, I just dont want to confuse him by having the bed in our room and then when we go out hes in the kitchen :/

I know im so annoyed..

I might try it tonight, put the bed in our room, in front of me so he can see me, im absolutely exhausted!

ive just ignored him while hes walking around the house, hes really obsessed with me and he cries if he cant get to me, of course I want to be with him constantly but I cant, hes just jumped up and fallen asleep on the sofa x

Rocky sleeps on our bed at night, if we go out during the day he is fine we leave some quiet music on for him. I'm sure he will be fine once settled in.

Same as Kath,y my 2 usually are in bed at night with us (although Roxy has lately decided to take herself off to the sofa at night and stretch out) and when we're out they have soft music on and I know that they just chill out on the bed or sofa.

I think because im trying to do everything by the book, instead of doing how I feel im causing more issues for myself!! I dont want him on the bed, (just cause I like my space) but im gonna put his bed in our room, see how much sleep I get tonight.

Try and really tire him out before bedtime, lots of playing so when he gets into bed he's exhausted. I can't believe your neighbours have complained, they are obviously not dog people because anyone who is would understand that this stage is just something you have to go through! Xx

Agree with Michelle..
Also try some training before bedtime. Encouraging sits and downs etc can be very tiring for a young puppy.
Mental stimulation is great for them.
Good luck tonight!  Smile

I don't think you will have an issue if you have him in the crate in your bedroom so he can see/hear you.

Just watch out for the comfy bed manoeuvre they are masters at it  oh go on

My pup is in the bedroom with me at night and goes in her crate in the kitchen when i go out, she's fine. Got a babygate for her as well but she doesn't like that for some reason.

Similar Ledger is great if I leave the house but if I'm there and go to another room he cries (although it's wholly acceptable for him to trot off to another room when he feels like it)

Our Lucy goes in her crate when we are out for a short time, but at night she comes upstairs with us, she gets between hubby and me and then gradually settles down at the bottom of the bed. She hardly ever moves during the night  Smile

routine and consistancy are the main things to keep up! sounds like your dog has separation anxiety issues with u at nite have u been going down to hush puppy up when howling? a crate in your room seems a good idea hes still with u but not able to do and go anywhere its very easy to let your dog lead how u do things but b firm and sometimes youll feel mean but your doing whats right for u and your dog (i have to remind myself of this on occassions) if your able to speak to neighbours let them know u r working on problem try and get them on side (even a note through letter box) your dog will also pick up on your anxieties stay calm and dont make too much fuss! good luck

where did u get him from? my chester is a staffy x and follows me like hes stuck with glue and hell b 3 in oct but he also knows and looks forward to now as he gets his denta stix that i have to leave him in morn to go to work! i got him as an abandoned puppy from staffy rescue and worried that he was to attached but its such early days my other dog willow tends to settle down where ever i am but not like chester does, if u r the one that feeds walks and is mainly there for your dog they will gravitate to u try and not over think or worry (which i did and learnt from) that this is a bad thing hes looking to u for reassurance, give it to him but b firm and training a must i have stair gates and firm rules on some things its a slow process and a real learning curve on dogs which u want to get right (esp) as they r staffies to show that they r a lovely intelligent super dog ! chester is my baby and i know would protect me whatever, yours is still a baby hope your neighbours know this!!

well, I actually just found someone selling as I wanted to rescue but couldnt find any rescue near me that would allow a rescue with my young son, when I got there it was just a woman whos staffies mated, everything seemed fine when I viewed the puppies, but when I picked him up the mum was so thin....im glad all the puppies were gone and loki was the last to be picked up....not the best place I admit,I think all the puppies were caged, and then when I carried him into the car he was shaking, now he loves people and always wants cuddles off everyone. I have a stair gate to the kitchen and he only goes in there if I pop out, and he has his pen in my room, other than that he doesnt come upstairs.

seems like hes come to just the right home (willow rescue dog from rspca wholl b 4 in june still shakes sometimes) it is mad though we had to have home check b4 we were allowed to adopt willow it took weeks same with chester but got little background on either dog? if u watched that itv programme a few weeks back your staffy could of been bred by any dim-wit (sorry no reassurance) but i know from my 2 its what u put into them that makes the difference    and u will think sometimes what have i done??? be sensible, never leave children and dogs alone, your the boss and your on your way! and there will always b someone on this forum with advice!!! Smile

I've been having the same problem with Skye crying at night at around 1.30 & 5am but I think it's just because she needs a pee. But since she's in a cage and brody isn't I don't think that's helping because if brody leaves the living room she normally cries.shes getting better tho. I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight as this helps too and my OH will appreciate the peace lol

I was very worried about our neighbour as our new flat has paper thin walls. I put a letter through his door apologising for the noise and I got a reply saying my pup will never be a problem coz this is what pups do and that his dog was way worse.pity your neighbour wasn't a dog person

U need to start cutting the apron strings only short leaves even if u walk up road maybe u can listen out for any howling! my 2 cant wait for me to go to work in the mornings as they get their denta stix when i leave and they sleep most of time while im out baby steps but needs addressing with your pup or youll never get any time out! ive made this mistake with holidays as i wont leave my 2 so we just dont go but its something im working on!
