Arnt dogs amazing

Bit of background first on why i find what happend tonight amazing and so touching at the same time.
take three dogs, 1/ marley, quite aloof around people and will mostly and embarassingly ignore them. 2/ Paddy a GSD who is even more aloof than marley and 3/ laska...nutball who goes wild with anyone.

Well we were on our last lap of the park when this oldish guy walked towards us. marley and laska were straining like mad as they had just seen a squirell and paddy was stalking some leaf hed just seen in the bushes.
This guy stopped and asked if it was okay to stroke the dogs and it became apparent he had some kind of learning difficulties bless him, he asked if they bite and if not could he stroke them. I said they were okay as did paddys owner fully expecting the dogs to be aloof and my butt cheaks clenched at thought of laska flooring him and licking his face.
but no... marley walked up to him when he beckoned and started to lick his hand, he stroked his head and paddy went in for some fuss as well. then amazingly laska did nothing but push herself against him and lick his hands as well...
was gobsmacked, but the thing that struck me and made me feel a bit sad was when we walked off he thanks us and said " thank you for letting me stroke your dogs, most people wont let me when i ask"
so what has happend to society when you cant let a harmless old gentleman pet your dogs and amazingly what turned the dogs from holier than though little shitebags into angels who were so gentle with him... proud and sad at the same time.

Nice - I must say the pub I go to on my days off is full of older people, they go there to eat, when we sit in the garden Moo is off lead garden roaming and the amount of respect she gets from the oldies is amazing

My girl does the same especially with little people. Because of her vest, she attracts a fair amount of attention but is more than happy to stand there tail wagging furiously whilst small fingers are perilously close to her eyes

I bet she gets loads of attention hun, she is a stunner bless her heart   

I just think there was somthing in this guys body language that drew the dogs towards him in a gentle and nurturing way rather than there usual mannerisms.

Oh that last bit broke my heart they really are amazing! Biscuit is a typical throw yourself at everyone staffie with people that she knows, but my sister is quite heavily pregnant and she's just sooo sweet with her! She gently rests her paws on her lap and sniffs her belly and then rests her head on her bump lol! I don't know why, she must be able to hear/smell the baba but she knows there's something in there! Same with kids, she just sits really calmly and will look at me for reassurance if she's a bit uncomfortable. Love them

My last staffie Ellie was similar to this with my dad before he died, he was in a wheelchair threw MS and she would run straight in house up on chair next to him and lick his face, then when he died she wouldn't go near where he used to sit just stayed at other end of living room,
They have an amazing sense for things like that,

thats what struck me, two dogs that wouldnt usualy give anyone they didnt know the time of day and one that goes all out to be the first in the queue for some fuss all switch.. all become gentle, loving and affectionate. as we walked away he was constantly saying thank you and have a good night,i have a thick skin and say things as they are often offending but that touched me too, be sure i will keep an eye out for him in the future.
think the human race has something to learn from dogs
