Help with puppy Empty Help with puppy

Post by Gailt Sun Apr 20 2014, 21:33

Hi all , could anyone help me with a question , I have a 2 yr old male staffy , his name is chip , we decided after much thought to get a puppy staff from same rescue as we got chip from , her name is belle, they are getting along really well chip has put her in her place a couple of times but I'm told this is normal behaviour . My pup is 14 weeks old, I was a little worried today as my son brought his girlfriends staff puppy round I thought the pups would get along at first they did but then my pup got very verbal and started to fight with the other puppy , is this normal or was she jealous because the pup was near chip . Please help

They do play rough and it can look aggressive, I'm sure someone who's seen staff pups play will along soon with their thoughts  Smile

Were they all in the house or did you introduce them outside first?

staffy puppy play can sound like hells gates have just opend but you also have to bear in mind one dog infringing on anothers territory. its good to meet on neutral terrority first and then move into home surroundings.
imagine your sitting watching tv at home when some noisey stranger walks in poking around all your stuff? as a human youd probably lamp them one and chuck them out yet dogs are a more accepting and will tolorate it more yet even so they do have limits. now imagine a friend coming around who you know and like being around, you have a good chat and feel at ease with them being there. just the same for your dog.

Could be because it was in your home or jealousy. Ideally they should be walked together first. At that age though it's unlikely the pup was being aggressive. They play very rough and it can look alot worse than it is. Here is a link on body language that should help.
