Licking everything

When out with Vin he is bloody licking everything where another dog has weed in the woods and on the kerbsides. Is there a reason for this I do pull him away most of the time but its becoming annoying as worry it wont do him any good. Short of putting a muzzle on him( which I don't want to do) what can I do?   

That's a strange one, daisy licks people but not the floor! I can only think of distracting him?

Is this a new behaviour hun? And would you say it's excessive?

He has sort of done it now and again but the past month it has become excessive   

I have noticed that Flo is sniffing everything at the mo. she doesn't want to lick but is sniffing every/anything that a dog might have been near.

Is it something to do with Spring or in Vin's case, could there be a dog on heat in the area ?

I thought perhaps the season change too Ian, as for bitches in heat I don't know as he really is doing it every few seconds along our walks.   

Was going to say a bitch in heat too. I've known a few entire male dogs to do this, as long as he's vaccinated I wouldn't worry too much about him picking something up, but i'd probably just use the "leave" command and then distract with a treat as Saz mentioned.

Makes sense! I'm reading more into vaccs but I've just seen too many dogs die of parvo I'd never forgive myself to risk it xxx

Would also have suggested maybe a bitch in season near you, it could be the answer. Could you have foxes near you ??

well after reading the title I was thinking NSFW

In past experience my Dogs have done this when a bitch is in heat in the area. Then they check and lick everything, drives you crazy.

When they lick the "right" one they used to do this little teeth chattering thing with a guilty glance my way when I called them "Dirty Sod" Lol.

Inez Bane has gone nuts with this lately too! It is mostly where females have weed and they don't have to be in season for him to do it! When he was playing with a husky bitch at the park, we watched her pee and then Bane dart over to the spot and try to lick it up and then pee on the same spot!  
He also does the teeth chattering thing and his tongue goes all crazy, then he drools everywhere! I thought there was something wrong with him first time he did it
Actually not just bitches! I saw him go lick up Sabre's wee today at the park

I'm sure he'll do good with leave' and treats Hun
