depression Empty depression

Post by rinerine Sat Mar 29 2014, 14:42

my poor iggy has been diagnosed with depression.
my husband and i had absolutely NO idea that iggy would get depressed by seeing us pack for the big move.
we've been packing and moving stuffs and making some repairs for 3 days now and he got worse and worse everyday.
we use to wake up to a energetic tail wagging dog, a dog that would wake up at night to follow any of us into the toilet, no matter how many times we got up, a dog who always came between us in the sofa, and gluttonous dog.

this morning was too much for us to watch. i could not help to think that one of my sleeping pills accidentally fell on the floor and he ate it last night.
he didn't greet us, he did not want to drink, eat and go for a walk. my husband still had to take him for his morning poop but once they came back he told me iggy was sluggish and did not want to walk.
he took him to the vet, the vet did some blood test and urine test in case he ate my pills, thank god it was negative, i was being a psycho for nothing. So his conclusions were that iggy is indeed depressed and stressed because of the move, and he needs to take some kind of breast milk for 20 days, and stay away from the apartment while we do our moving.
he is now at my in-laws 20 minutes away from home. my poor baby.

I doubt its depression so to speak but more anxiety, to be honest he is better off out of the situation, as long as he hasn't got a similar anxiety when staying in a strange place. How long until you are settled again? Xx

I hope Iggy is ok at your inlaws but that he doesn't miss you so much that it's also affects him more. Very difficult situation to try and figure out what's best.
Breast milk? Or is it colostrum?

We are moving too and we have some clinginess and anxiety with Kai. He does get time with the in laws on a regular basis anyway so the periods away fro a day don't seem like such a new thing for him. The trouble is that the move affects me and my fella, and I think Kai picks up on that, emotions are a bit high right now. We try to build in play time for us so that we are rested and we get to relax with Kai when we can. Moving gets so all consuming, it's all we do or talk about of late, having downtime helps.

it's like capsuled doggy breast milk apparently, i didn't go to the vet with iggy my husband did, and he told me the vet gave him a 20 day treatment with some kind of breast milk to soothe him. maybe it's a french thing lol.
hopefully by friday he will be back with us and i will be able to tell you more about this milk thing.
my poor baby, moving is really frustrating on me, he must have been picking up my emotions lately.
apparently he is enjoying his vacations at the in laws, he went to play with bob his labrador friend this morning.

Aw bless him Sad are you referring to zylkene capsules? Glad he's okay at his temporary home though, Biscuit always gets a little off when we're moving. Change/routine effects them so much! Sensitive little souls!

Glad to hear that he's doing much better now. Have you tried Rescue Remedy drops? We've been looking at some things for Marquez and I've had my brother and friend who's worked at the vet clinic for over 20 years and who shows dogs swear by this when it comes to helping with stress and anxiety. I've got a couple of bottles on hand incase I need to use it. Marquez definitely was depressed for quite a few days after a couple of days seizures a couple of weeks back but fortunately is back to normal now. It is hard seeing them like this but hopefully he comes out of it soon.

Rescue Remedy you can definitely buy online.
I know you're in France but here's the UK link. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bach-Rescue-Remedy-Pet-223929/dp/B00CLIBK5S/ref=pd_sim_petsupplies_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=035QN4CRMB9AB0D57ZQ7
http://www.bachrescueremedypet.com

I've got the Rescue Remedy for people as no one I know can get the pet version there and the regular Rescue Remedy is easily available in many pharmacies, health stores and chain stores there.  Even though regular Rescue Remedy contains ethanol (pet version is ethanol free) the vets there say that the amount is minimal and will not do the animals any harm and safe for them.

Rescue Remedy Kids is also alcohol free if you can get it. http://www.bachflower.com/alcohol-free-bach-flower-remedies/
