For adults with learning disabilities.. Have any of you guys got experience with this? I've possibly got an interview lined up, think I'd really enjoy it, and it would be something I could really get into. A close friend of mine has aspergers and is just the most wonderful person, I used to help my mum out when she was a youth worker when I was little with groups of adults with ld who's parents had put them into care and just left them, found it so rewarding.

Don't have any experience other than that though!

Yeah it's in a residential home Steve! Sounds like the same kind of set up, my friend that does it said their families don't even visit Sad but that's why the support workers are there, to be a second family Smile you'd basically just be spending time with them in their day to day lives; cooking, cleaning, hanging out, taking them to appointments and for days out etc. Just whatever they want and keeping them safe in the community Smile Nope, no experience at all Kathy, only ever worked in customer service and animal care/behaviour. Ah really Hayley? Why did she find it stressful? After working for the RSPCA I feel like I can handle anything thrown at me lol! But understand it's a different sector of care!

If it's something that you feel strongly about and you really want to do it try putting some infomation out about yourself to places where you would like to work

I think the level of care required is obviously different from case to case but she used to do sleepovers on a sort of 12 hours on thing and I think the constant one to one was stressful, but as you say rach working for RSPCA has probably put you in better stead for it Smile

hi,
a close family member has learning difficulties, the local academy school failed her appallingly, so she was put into private education.

Rachel it is very rewarding work, schizophrenics manic depression depression, recovering alcoholics/drug users affect each sufferer differently. The half way house would bee getting them ready to live unassisted again.

I don't know much about you but you sound a kind caring person and a good listening ear.

I guess the one thing to say that may help and I know you wont anyway look beyond the diagnosis we are all human beings and I am sure you will be fine, if for any reason you don't get on you can leave

good luck
