Sadie - Tan Crossbreed with a wee bit of Staffy

Post by kilmousk on Sun May 22, 2011 3:40 pm

Sadie is a pretty tan crossbreed, we were originally told she is a GSD cross but she is much smaller than a shepherd and may have some staffie breeding.

Sadie is currently in kennels in South Wales and is looking for a foster or forever home.

The Sadie Fact File
Dog status: Sadie is very bouncy and exciteable around other dogs. Would be best as an only dog or with calm, quiet role models.
Cat status: Could possibly be rehomed with cats
Child status: Sadie is in an adult only foster home and came to us from the pound so we do not know if she is used to young children. She could be rehomed with young people aged 11 years plus.
House training: Good
Home alone: Good, could live with a full time worker if she received enough mental and physical stimulation and input at other times.
Basic training: Knows the basics and is learning all the time. She is an intelligent dog who loves to work and earn rewards.

Sadie is a little firecracker. She is a bundle of fun, love, energy and enthusiasm. Life is one big adventure for her and she is always looking forwards to what is around the next corner. If you are looking for an loving, loyal, comical companion then look no further, Sadie is your girl.

She has been through the mill recently. She came to us from a pound in the north of England who were full and having to consider euthanising some of the dogs. She had spent a long time in their kennels and unfortunately then had a long wait with us for a foster offer. She has now been with her lovely foster family for a month and they have worked very hard with her. Like many dogs who have been kennelled for a long time the stress had taken a toll on Sadie and her behaviour. When dogs live in kennels, humans come and go for very short, highly exciting periods for feeding, walkies etc and this can lead to dogs who are very excited and enthusiastic around people. Kennelled dogs are usually stressed and unsettled, surrounded by neighbouring dogs who are also stressed and unsettled and this can lead to problems when socialising them. When you spend your day barking and swearing at your neighbour through the kennel mesh, and they are just as discontent as you, it can create very negative associations in the dogs mind.

Having said that, the over excited, over active dog who arrived in foster care has morphed into something else. A loving, intelligent and gentle dog who is on the road to being a well rounded and relaxed dog. She may not be there just yet, but working towards that goal with Sadie will be a rewarding and wonderful journey.

Sadie adores people and loves to be cuddled and fussed whenever possible without being too demanding. She is very well socialised with people although we do not know what she is like with children. As she came to us with no history and she is in an adult only foster home if we were going to rehome her with young people they would need to be used to dogs and at least 11 years old.
Sadie is happy to be left without becoming distressed or pining and she currently lives in a family who work and she is on her own for a few hours at a time. She is re-living her puppyhood and does like to use her jaws when on her own and chew her toys and other small items so any house needs to be puppy proofed and she needs lots of appropriate chews and toys when left.
Sadie is in foster care with a cat, but it is a feline of the timid variety and their interactions are minimal. Sadie is interested in the cat but has not had a lot of contact with her. She could be rehomed with confident cats who are used to living with dogs as long as a new owner was able to manage introductions carefully.

Sadie is very excited in the company of other dogs and will become agitated when on the lead or over excited and boisterous around them when off the lead. Her foster family are working on this with a dog trainer. A headcollar has been introduced to improve her walking on a lead and to increase control if she becomes reactive at the sight of other dogs. Work is also being put in place to encourage her to socialise in a more appropriate manner but this will take time and care and is something a new adopter would need to continue work on.

Sadie loves her walks, they are the highlight of her day and she will be looking for an active home where she will get lots of mental and physical stimulation. She would benefit hugely from further training, either at home or in group classes.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk

She sounds like a little darling.

Sounds like her foster family are doing great things for her and teaching her some nice manners and behaviours. Hopefully she will find a loving FOREVER HOME soon.

Good luck xo
