Dog Food Empty Dog Food

Post by suzieJ Fri Nov 15, 2013 10:50 am

Lucy has been on Orijen puppy food, as I was running short I ask my son to buy a larger sack of the same. As they didn't have any in stock the assistant said the Adult dog feed can be given to a puppy?

I have given it to her and she doesn't have a problem eating it..will the difference only be in the size of the dried food?

At 7 weeks, no I wouldn't give the adult version. The nutritional needs of a pup are very different to an adult, and she may not get everything she needs.

Thanks Caryll, I thought that would be the answer Smile
It just means I will have to spend another £69  on another bag Rolling Eyes
Still I will sealed the adult one up and keep it for when she is 1 yr old. "it still should be ok"

If it's sealed properly & kept dry & cool it should be ok, but do check it properly before you use it. You don't want to give it to her if it's got mould in it! What's the 'sell by' date on the pack?

The Best before date is 12/11/2014- so I should be ok. Food will be kept in the house under the stairs "nice and cool"

I also want to start to include one meal of raw meat.
At the moment she is having 270g of dried complete divided into 3 meals
I will be using Natures Menu chicken mince; but I'm not sure how much to give her  " A little help is needed please"

I feed JerryLee (11weeks) exclusively on raw (Nutriment which he absolutely loves) and they say 5 or 6% of the ideal body weight for the puppy's age. Which sounds confusing, he is a little under 5kg and has around 250g per day split into three or four meals. That might help you to work it out including the other food?

If you are planning to feed raw with dry, you will need to reduce the amount of dry food to compensate - otherwise you will have an overfed pup.

Remember to feed your raw and dry seperately as well, it will help to avoid upset tums Smile
