Sad So embarrassed

Post by otisthestafford Fri Jul 05 2013, 15:37

We had just come home after our lovely long walk to the field and our neighbour was outside (we live in flats) he came over and wanted to say hello to Otis, but because he has never really met him before Otis was very unsure and he wasn't full on barking just small quiet ones as if to say who are you... I gave our neighbour some treats and he came over and took them, but still sort of shied away. IMO there was no aggression shown just him being unsure. He is fine when he gets to know who the people are and is quiet happy to say hello but he just isn't one of those dogs that is HIYA!!! I want to be your best friend right now - he is shy...

I was so embarrassed though as I don't want them to think he is a horrible dog... I really need to get more people to say hello to him... Sad I'm at a loss really.... I am still going to work hard and get more people to say hello.

Sorry I just wanted air my thoughts...

I think I worry more about what opinion they will take as he is a staff, I know I shouldn't.
As we live in flats he just doesn't quite understand that lots of people live here Laughing He used to some people but because these particular neighbours have been away for around 6 months he is like well who the hell are you lol...

The main thing is, you know Otis is a kind loving staffy and that's all that matters! Smile

There is a big plus to dogs being a bit reserved as this also means it is much easier to train Otis to be nice and controlled off lead around other people . Tommy is a looney so I always clip him on , whereas Tilly will wait to be invited so around other people on walks (unless there are dogs present) I normally don't have to be concerned

Sarah,

I know how you feel. We want a medium with our dogs. I wish Bart had a little bit of Otis in him...yet Bart has NEVER met a stranger...SHEESH!!!! I really do understand about the perception of him as one stranger said (I did correct her) "Wow! He is certainly an ambassador to change the perception of all Pit Bulls!" I nicely said, "Yes, he is a very very friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier...no real relation to a pit bull."
