pregnant, 4 weeks to go

Hi everyone, I'm pregnant and have just over 3 weeks to go. Just wanted to post and tell you all how nice it's been over the last few days. Since putting the crib up in the bedroom and moses basket up in the living room for skye to get used to, she's been great. She has a sniff around them and that's about it. She even got under the crib and led there. I know the baby isn't here yet for her to get used to him and new smells etc, but I know she's going to be fantastic around him.

People kept saying I should be wary about having a staffy around a baby and it really annoyed me. The way skye has acted around the baby furniture and toys we've shown her is fantastic. She will cwtch up with her head on my belly and wags her tail when she feels the baby move. Staffys have been known as nanny dogs and I know skye will love and look after the baby. I'll post pics when he's born with skye. My perfect lil family :-) x

That's great! Hope things go well for you & we'd love to see some pics of your baby when he/she's born!

My old boy Bandit was about 7 years old when my first was born & loads of people (including my mother) told me I should get rid of him, but he was fantastic, no problem at all!

Get a doll and dress it in some clothes you already have and play mummy so you can guage a reaction. I know for sure if i had a baby lexi would jump up on the sofa and try to climb onto my lap, so just start training that out of him! lol

i'm sure Skye will be great is this your first baby?

Yea first baby. It's a boy :-) when babies come to the house it's as if she knows to be gentle, has a sniff n licks their hand then goes away. Don't get me wrong, she's crazy hyper around toddlers/kids which we'll have to try and sort out, but she's fantastic with babies... I'll definately get a doll to get her used to me having something on my lap tho - good idea, thanks. X

Congratulations , the last few wks of pregnancy are the hardest ! I am sure Skye will be great with the baby and they will enjoy growing up together good luck ! x

Awww I'm sure they will grow up together as best buds.
Ofc usual common sence apples, dont leave bubs on his own in s room with Skye, just like u shouldn't leave bubs and cats in same room as cars have been known to smother a baby by cosying upto it for a nap.

I do believe dogs have a sixth sence with babies and small children x

only thing i would recommend is let her join in with day today activities when baby hear, treat her as you would if she was a human sibling and dnt leave her out. tyke was 5 month old when ryan arrived (our son) and we just let tyke be around as much as poss so he wouldnt get jelous

people will always criticize you what ever you do .................just prove them wrong

I just thought id update everyone
We had our little boy 4 weeks early and named him Caden. He's not 5 months old and our staffy Skye (14 months old) is amazing with him. Obviously theyre never left alone, but shes so gently with him. I know they'll be best of friends.

Two fold congrats to you.... the first for your baby, and the second for not getting rid of your fur baby !! Far too many people give them up for this exact reason, and it's a shame as they are great with children (one of only 2 breeds to be recommended suitable around children by the Kennel club)
