Bruno's back legs are struggling to hold him up, they seemed still earlier but now he wobbles when he walks and is bow legged and is having trouble walking, he had about an hour on his training lead and 20 minutes walk on his short lead earlier, any ideas?

I am sorry Shaz I have no idea , maybe he is just tired but if you are really concerned I would call the vets , they should have an out of hrs emergency number.
Hope he is ok.

I'm not sure but I'm thinking a trip to the vet..

Are they just shaky or really not holding him up? Has he jumped awkwardly? He may have pinched a nerve? But and I don't want to cause unnecessary alarm there are a lot more serious conditions that can cause that.. Personally I would go to the vet, but I can be a little OTT with Steff..

I have just looked at his paws and a few pads have cuts on them, could it be that it hurts to put his feet on the floor?

Yes that could cause him to be tender Sad Clean them with some warm salty water and then if you have some bandages you can wrap them.. Just keep them clean and dry for the next few days Big Grin

Like I said just keep them clean and dry and he should be fine Big Grin But if they become inflamed or start bleeding then you may need a vet visit.. >Big Grin< For Bruno

Also when you clean them do a thorough check that nothing is in them like glass etc..

Could be Shaz. Try washing his feet with a dilution of antiseptic, drying them, and then applying Germolene or Sudocreme to them. Then settle him down to bed and see how he is tomorrow.

I've panicked in a similar situation and taken my pup to a 24/7 vet in the middle of the night (like now) and after a multitude of tests, a sleepless night for me and £550 later, all the tests were clear and he was right as rain the next morning!

So tbh I would advise a little first aid, settle him to sleep and see how he is in the morning. If his pads are swollen and tender then, and/or if he has still trouble walking, then take him to vet.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

I have cleaned them, I admit they are worse then earlier, he has 4 on each back paw pad and they look sore but it's a relief it's not his hips or joints, I would walk funny if I had such sores on my feet, he yelped with the salt water so I did my best and I will do so again tomorrow, he won't be able to walk on pavement for a few days though, what a shame.....can't put septic cream on as he will lick it of for sure, apart from that he's happy as Larry....thanks all, much appreciated x

Poor little Bruno! >Big Grin<

Do you know what might have cut his hind feet?

Understand about licking any ungeunt off them, so long as you have done your best to ensure that no infection sets in, that's the main thing.

Settle him tonight for a good sleep, and see how he and his paws are tomorrow.

Nite nite Bruno, >Big Grin<

Is it because of the walking? I read that puppies' pads are very sensitive/soft, so to build it up gradually, the walking on hard surfaces, until they get used to it. Unless he cut them on something like glass? Poor Bruno Sad hope they heal up quickly!

I would advise rest and see how he is. As a general rule they should only be walked 5 minutes per month of age for a walk. So at three months that's a 15 minute walk 2-3 times per day. Anything more than that can damage the neuromuscular system or joints and cause long term problems.

The soreness on his pads may be due to the salt that's been spread on the roads recently, it can cause cracks etc etc. You should take a trip to the Vet and get his legs checked out, it may be nothing but the bow legs you describe could show a vitamin deficiency.

Hi All, he's still walking a little funny, just cleaned the pads and decided to risk putting savlon on, he's resting now, I think it was the walking on hard pavement that done it so he won't be walking on pavement until his pads toughen up from now on, he's been on grass more than pavement tbh so his little pads must be so delicate,he's being fed wainwright and that has all the bits he needs surely.

If he's no better by tomorrow he will goto the emergency vets.thanks.

Don't forget the salt n grit that's used on pavements and roads is an irritant to paws so always wash them off if walking over gritted areas x

Koda had trouble with her pads when we first started to go out thought she had stood on a lit ciggy but it was on 3 paws it was because she had puppy feet.. i cleaned them up after a day off and shortened the walk for a couple of days and they hardened up

Bruno is much better, sores are getting smaller and he's back to running around, though I have not walked him yet, I am taking him to the park tomorrow on grass only.

Lovely to hear that Bruno is getting better. I didn't notice (doh) that he was such a little puppy and therefore likely to have those dear little soft pads that could get cut so easily and/or get salt and grit in them.
