Is my baby starts to dislike some male dogs?

Took Debo for a walk on the beach. There was 6mnts old labrador,we went over to say hello. Debo on the lead ,the other off. Labrador came to us,we stroke him, Debo growled. Let him off the lead,they started to play. Debo came to me for a stroke, Lab after him. Then Debo chased after him,pined him down,stood over him with chest up front,then lower himself and gave a growl. No showing teeth. I grabed him by his collar and told him off,he looked like he knew for what. We said sorry to the lady and walk off. I have 2 theories for that.

It might have been over excited play just or a show of dominance. The fact that you dealt with it properly and he listened is the most important thing. Logan doesn't like certain dogs, but it is more to do with how they behave that sets him off rather like gender. Although he doesn't get on with most Alsatians/Huskys.

I just have to be aware that every now and again I will have to correct him.

I dont think you can tell whats going to happen with other dogs. Some they play happily with others they play happily with then turn funny. Its just pot luck really

We were thinking about it on the way back home. Debo has a girlfriend Jack Russell. An his fine with her. When he was a puppy I took him with me to work,my employers have a 5yrs old Labradoodle female. She was always very aggressive with Debo when in her place. Chesed him around ,pined him down ,growling,showing teeth,snarling. She aways had a go for him. I think it might be it. Similar dog.
The other theory-he's jelous. He saw us stroking the dog and just wanted to show him who's the boss.

Dogs can definitely get jealous however what you are describing sounds more of a dominance thing.

It could be either one of those. Suki has a jealous streak as well but only if we pet a dog that is a similar size. She's fine if we pet a smaller dog

Any ideas what to do with it?

So if Debo growled at the lab when he was on the lead , why did you let him off the lead? I wouldn't of, surely that is a warning!

He growl because we stroke the lab when Debo was on the lead. So we thought that maybe he feels unsecure on the lead. He never showed that behaviour when playing with other dogs. My OH said that for him,it looks like the lab did something that Debo didn't like he wanted to show him who's older. It wasn't deep growl, it's difficult to say.

Mayb Debo was jealouse because you gave the Labrador some attention I know it sounds silly but when me and my boyfriend cuddle or me and my mum he always wants to be center of attention we've had a few problems with dragon growling at other dogs but that is because his old owner never walked/socialised dragon so now we just walk him were there is no other dogs because it's not fair on he other dog and it's not fair on him to be on the lead were going to take him to a behaviourist

For me it's just a matter of being aware that if need be I might have to stop bad behaviour. I think you should be very confident in yourself as you said you were able to stop and correct Debo and he knew he had done something wrong.

Basically, in my opinion what you did was totally right. But you might have to do it now and again from time to time.

It really did sound like a show of dominance rather than aggression issue .

Thanks everyone. Today he played with his jrs girlfriend with no problems. He really came a long way. His recall is much better,even with dogs around he sometimes can fight his temptation.
